Hmm
a bit OT, but a grid (like the one on midi tracks) should be there for audio tracks, too.

You should be able to drag both the marker's and tail points. Selecting the section itself would allow you to give it a name and set any other parameters Jules chooses to support.
I think it is important to keep in mind that recording would be disabled in this mode... If not you will have a giant bag of worms to deal with. You could add to the cue in a live situation and jam over the playing sections but not record. Or you could create a new edit or render an audio file bassed on a given sequence and then open that edit and record. However you could not have it both ways as far as I can see without a lot of work on Jules part. So far I think the ideas we have come up with have been very do-able.
Not that I would mind, but I think the best chance of seeing this become a reality is to keep this thread alive and hear from more people who might find this useful.Perhaps Rock should send him a polite email?
Yes we did, yes we did, yes we did

a bump for this, to prompt discussion from users; this is quite an old suggestion and could benefit from comment from the many new regulars.

Just quickly read through this while at work & seems like a cool idea indeed - though i've yet to fully digest it.

If we could just group/ungroup clips that would be a start. I never use exact copies of sections - DPs song mode was more trouble than its worth so I think the subject needs a very careful thought out approach.

that is a good point, semiquaver. although i don't think that a section playback order could possibly present any problems... you'd just say 'play section 1, then 2, then 1 again, then 3, 4, then 1, then 5'. i wouldn't necessarily use it for my final mixes, but for hearing how different parts sound together it would be phenomenal; even with group clips it would still require a lot of jiggery-pokery to just try out different sections playing up against each other. but yes, group clips would help take everything up yet another level.

It would be great if section playback were object based rather than time based so that tails won't be cut off etc. And if you could then "expand song" ...

Yeah, this is very cool. My vote for Object based playlist / sketchpad / arranger. The linear 'Timeline' thing can take the the fun out of 'Non-Linear' editing.

I like this idea LOTS.
If I could toggle any one playlist section to loop on the fly as well, I wouldn't have to buy a different host (EnergyXT/Live) for performing live. That would be so incredibly rad!
