Im doing some songs that are blues/rockish. The problem is my vocals border on sucking, and stand in front of the mix too much. I cant seem to get them to blend in and sound like they are in the room with the rest of the song.
Any suggestions?

note: compression will usually bring vocals forward in the mix imo. Anoter thought (don't know if it works w/ yr style) is vocal doubling (not a lug - sing it again!)
otherwise yah - reverb or echo are probably what you want. Ts native effects are not so hot though - there are a million nice echos - for free reverb check out ambience at magnus@smartelecronix.com - there are some nice delays thereabout as well - all free/shareware.

I dunno if you are Mac or PC, but for PC you could do a whole lot worse than check out KJaerhaus's classic series.

Try backing away from the mic. Think about physical space when recording. I do this especially with backup vocals. If I want them to sit behind the lead vocal I'll record them further from the mic. You may not think it sounds as good when soloed but don't make your judgement until you try it in the mix.

Okay, you've got plenty of good, helpful, serious answers... so I won't feel too guilty mentioning that many singers could be improved HUGELY by using this vocal plug:

Yes I have employed this before. It works well. I usually mic guitars further back than most people, just to add space.Tim Brackett wrote:Try backing away from the mic. I need that "corkscrew" plug. I'm wondering if it's cross platform.
