got the t2 demo and when i tried to use my midi keyboard on a vsti, there were no sounds...
instead, when i hit a "g" it took me to projects page

I've had real problems and similar behaviour in terms of suddenly being zapped to the projects page.
What MIDI keyboard is it? Mine is the M-Audio Ozonic.
Does your keyboard work for controller mapping (mine is unrecognised)?
I can't play notes or anything from my keyboard now. I've uninstalled the T2 demo from my system and reverted to T1 for now (but also downloaded the demo for Sonar 4, which looks like an impressive alternative at this stage)

Well I must say that I feel gutted that I've reached a stage where I'm looking at alternatives. I have loved Tracktion. But I was hoping a few more issues would have been dealt with in the update, and the problems with using Ozonic have basically brought those feelings to a head.
I've been reading all the FR threads here, most of which sound like they are describing features already present in Sonar! And the demo certainly seems very good.
Also, it doesn't seem nearly as bloated/complex as I feared it might, after reading other people's comments here. So perhaps it's simply time for me to move onto a bigger and more established sequencing platform at this stage.

I can't handle how Sonar handles audio and midi tracks. It just bugs me out trying to keep track of everything. Tracktion is 180º from that, thankfully. I don't think I'd ever really get over that. Lot's of cool features though.

It's really simple. If something is significantly better, then why not just use it and get your misery over with. Sonar has a demo avaliable, so it's really easy to determine if it will fit your workflow.
Regards to the feature requests... well Sonar was Cakewalk ProAudio.. and before that it was Cakewalk Professional for DOS. There were 9 versions under that guise prior to Sonar which is at v4. That's 13 full versions... in 1987 cakewalk released Cakewalk Professional v2. They have a long history. It's simply not fair to compare a program which began as a homebrewed project a little over 2 years ago. Tracktion is very much so in it's infancy. I'm opting to go for the ride... it's great software. With time, I have faith it will find very original and clever solutions to more common approaches in other sequencers.. but it's simply going to require a great deal of patience.

I think the core of T is clean and flexible - object oriented - cross platform - 2d - the somewhat transparent format of edits - in a way that none of the others are. It may be younger so has a thinner feature-set, but the architechture is more modern. Ultimately *if it survives and thrives* it looks to these eyes that it will yield the strongest product.

About the "bloated", "cumbersome" etc. I think that is in alot of regards a myth. Sure, I don't care much for cubase, but Sonar and Logic are great for their respective platforms. Sure, there are some more stuff to learn then with Tracktion, but once you know your way around it's just as fast and easy. Even though Sonar has however many more features than Tracktion you don't have to learn about them all to get going. And it is kinda nice to know that if you one day realise that you need a feature it is probably already there waiting for you to learn how to use it.
I'm not saying that Tracktion isn't great. It is very useful to me for various uses, but I have come to realise that I do require more features, and thus need a "big" sequencer to.

yes, in fact it doesn't matter if i set it to record or not..ModuLR wrote:did you read the manual? you have to make sure the midi inputs on the left are set to record.

seems that some functions are assigned to the keys...
i just want to play my keyboard, nothing else...
had no problems in other hosts before, this is certainly strange..

this is very strange...
all of a sudden, it works..
went to settings page, deactivated midi input, then activated it again, and voila, it works !
i don't know if this triggered it, but it's strange nevertheless..

just done a quick test ...
... as has been mentioned elsewhere im sure this is down to 'standard' MIDI controllers being assigned to the mackie external controllers settings ...
... i just went into the 'external controllers' page and selected my humble evolution mk225c as the 'MIDI input to use for this device' with the MCU selected ...
... with T2 set up like this hitting keys on the mk225c results in the type of odd behaviour described ... random bits of GUI moving ... zoom factor changing ... a myriad of 'copied to clipboard' pop-ups ... and loads of other stuff ...
... so ... make sure your controller ISNT linked to the mackie units (on the 'external controllers' page make sure both boxes for both controllers read' no device selected' and try again ...
... headquest - even if your settings dont show this as youve previously said im now SURE this IS the issue (maybe for some reason T2 is hooking the ozonic in behind the scenes) and it would help everyone if you could maybe work with us testers and jules on nailing this ... have you contacted him directly ???
