You only get the wet signal.

The Modulator Sends in EVE 1.8.xx completely cut the dry signal on the Layer output when using the new Phazer and Filter in the Modulator section.

as an example:
turn off sound in layers B and C (ie. sound only on layer A).
select either Phazer or Filter in Modulator.
spin the Modulator Send on layer A slowly on.
at the lowest setting you can barely hear any sound (as it is now outputting the wet signal only).
try the same thing on the old effects. no problem...

nevermind.
i just re-read the feature list in the 1.8 thread, and realized that these are supposed to operate as inserts, not sends.
it's just that this breaks backward-compatibility with presets which used the old phaser...that's how i got confused when a preset i was working on suddenly lost a layer...
not to mention that the controls are labelled as sends...
but i see that this is by-design. sorry. my bad.
