i know the wavforms look like mono..but when i try and use a plugin like Ren Comp Mono on a vocal track, there are a bunch of clicks..but the stereo version works fine..why is this?
thanks.
thanks.

all tracks are stereo.
If you import a mono wavefile, Tracktion will simply double it across two stereo tracks, so the stereo/mono thing is basically invisble to the user.

wow - I had no idea...
there are a few plugs which need mono inputs - like Altiverb mono->stereo (this is defferent from stereo->stereo w/ identical L/R channels). So I guess for those we should use a rack which takes one side of the input only... or does T do this automatically somehow????

T does that automatically too.
You really never need to think much about mono or stereo.

Waves crashes T at startup for me (as has been noted elsewhere). If I recall they told someone else on this forum that they don't support Tracktion....

no..no latency here..i have zero issues with that.only when using a mono plugin on any track i record in tracktion.
whats wierd is i have the regular waves stuff running fine..I have a vocal chain of Wavs Desser, then RenComp, and then the 6 band ren EQ followed by steinberg magneto, and it all works fine..just not the mono versions.......but god the headroom i have in the mix is unreal..i am still not used to this much space in software.

are the audi files stereo or mono? if they are stereo then if you click on the audio file, in the propties pannel at the bottom you will see 2 yellow box's 1 labeld left the other right,
if you un-check the left one only! (or the right one only!) dose this fix the problem??

Yes very wierd.. using the stereo versions shouldn't cause any problems though, and cpu use is likely to be only slightly greater than the mono versions (as much of the calculation will be the same for both channels)stash98 wrote:yeah..its a wierd isnt it? only mono plugs do that.

ill try the uncheck thing now..as for the whole mono thing..can you record a track in true mono? like a wavform right down the middle that is in regular mono? this must be able to be done..the reason i ask is because some samples like BFd are supposed to be in mono, but im afraidthat they are loading in stereo (in essence doubling the mono track on each side) and that is causing phase issues.
i got this feeling because i recorded a guitar and duplicated it..i hardpanned it left and right, and then recorded a new track w/ a different amp and did the same......i got a lot of muddy guitar (i know how to mix guitars pretty well..so that isnt the issue)..i pulled out the duplicate tracks on opposite sides, and voila..the guitars sounded like they should.
so i ended up having a different amp on each side...which sounds realy cool, but i would like to be able to vary it up and be able to use both options.
hope that made some kind of sense. it really affects my snare sound right now i think.

Hi Stash - I don't unsertand. There isn't any difference between a stereo track where R and L are identical and a mono track panned in the center. You get the very same thing at your stereo outputs so....
When you "pulled out the duplicate tracks" your guitars ended up panned hard left or right rather than center. Is that what caused your issue?
idea: are your speakers in phase? if not this would make hard panned material sound good but center panned material sound bad. Just a thought.
