I didn't record it as 24-bit, I recorded it as 16-bit, so if I was to make a 24-bit, I'd have to sample the bass again. Maybe sometime in the future.
Not sure if my soundcard (SB Audigy) will even support 24-bit.

I've been able to get a little more progress. Last week was difficult because I had midterms, but I should be running into more free time soon. I'm also debating whether to add a Rocco Prestia patch. Maybe I'll wait until I've finished everything else and then think about it then.
EDIT: I have, by the way, finished the "muted" and "muted picked" patches. I'm also thinking of doing an entire patch on harmonics, both natural harmonics (like Jaco used) and artificial harmonics.

Oh, and by the way, I'm including another special bass sample in the fingered bass soundfont: a bass string breaking! I don't think any other commercial bass libraries have that. Not quite sure where you'd use it, but you'll have fun.

Already done!WoJ wrote:lol your going to break a string just for the soundfont :O...watch your eye's

A nice, realistic (of course it's realistic!) string breaking sound. When bass strings break, they don't really go flying off, they usually just suddenly go limp, because the coils come undone at the bridge.
News: I also finished the harmonics soundfont.

This is truly sounding awesome! I really hope it's not too expensive. Not that it's not worth it, just that I know this would be a GREAT budget solution. It really is worth much more than most would pay, but I know that this is something many of us, including myself, would like to have. But money is tight at the moment.
Thanks for all you've done Geoff. It is truly appreciated!

I made 2 more quick demos, and in both the bass is left completely dry:

Right now it's 180 megs and all I have to add is the "Victor Wooten-style" slapping soundfont. That'll probably put it up to 230 megs. The nice thing is that they're all separate soundfonts, so you won't be straining your RAM -- you can load only the ones you need.

$20?!?!?!?!?! Are you serious? Count me in for sure! I may have to wait for my taxes to justify it with the wife, but hey, it's ok! Ya know, we have money, but we really don't "have" money, since we've got to save it(for my Motif ES8, but she doesn't know that yet! Shhhhhh....) for something big in the future.
But anyway, thanks again for your work Geoff! Can't wait for the new sounds!

I too think this bass sounds good, but since I am looking for P-Bass sound for my "band", it is not exactly what I am after. I know this is a P-Bass, but too me it sounds more like a J-Bass or even somewhat like the Rickenbacker. I have several basses from Samplehead and Sonic Implants. So in my case I would say, I would like to try it with my own stuff, and if I find it uselful I will pay $20 or more. Not sure I will pay just to try.

You have no idea how much of a compliment that is to me! Thanks!tombuur wrote:I know this is a P-Bass, but too me it sounds more like a J-Bass or even somewhat like the Rickenbacker.
It probably doesn't sound like a P-Bass to you because it is so bright sounding. Hmmm, maybe I should include a deep-toned reggae bass soundfont with that: plucking closer to the neck. That way the bass kit could be even more versitile. I was planning on letting people just EQ out the highs to get a deeper bass, but there actually is a different way you play the bass when you want it to sound deeper.
