I have just got hold of SIR - very nice - as a home hobbyist need I look further? It seems very good 'value' - any other good free/v inexpensive reverbs out there?

If you're looking for a good convolution reverb, there's a group buy now available for Voxengo Pristine Space Light: http://www.voxengo.com/groupbuy/
It's like SIR, but has very low latency (A 0 latency option is possible, I think).
Other than that, I can recommend Ambience. It can be a CPU hog though.

Tracktion has plug-in delay compensation, so you're ok there. But it does not extend to racks, so you mustn't put SIR in a rack, basically, or your tracks will fall out of time with each other. T2 is the same.
Best place to put SIR would probably be on the Master Out or (in T2) on an aux send, assuming PDC works on the new sends/returns...?
Ambience is a good plug, but VERY Cpu hungry indeed. Also you will find that some of the presets are great while others are awful, so time spent identifying the good ones is worthwhile.
For a quick 'n' easy reverb that sounds lush, I would also recommend the Kjaerhus Classic Reverb which is also freeware. Warm sound, simple controls, good presets, easy on the eye, and very economical in terms of CPU.

PDC doesn't work with aux sends/returns in T2. Big oversight for me, I must say.

glaceverb is also rather nice - but probably more of a 'good 4 weird effects' type verb.

I reckon the mackie one is going to be really good.

That truly sucks. An aux send is the classic place to drop a plug such as SIR, and the most important place for PDC to be.pw wrote:PDC doesn't work with aux sends/returns in T2. Big oversight for me, I must say.
Thanks for letting us know. (I had already rejected the T2 demo before thesting that)

thanks - I'll check out the Kjaerhaus one. CPU is an issue for me (1.2GHzheadquest wrote:Tracktion has plug-in delay compensation, so you're ok there. But it does not extend to racks, so you mustn't put SIR in a rack, basically, or your tracks will fall out of time with each other. T2 is the same.

headquest- well, I use alot of other plugs that don't require PDC, so I will and already do benefit from the aux send/returns. I too do think it is THE most important place for PDC. I even think it will eventually get there. In the meantime I just get on with making music.
timmyo- You should also check out convoboy free- another free convolution plug- I use it instead of SIR actually. Do a search here and you will find it- has some different features.

PDC does extend to racks, with the proviso that the entire rack must have the same delay. ie: wrapping SIR in a rack to use as a send is ok, but a send / return loop constructed within a rack will not have PDC.headquest wrote:Tracktion has plug-in delay compensation, so you're ok there. Hoe does Convoboy and SIR compare to Voxengo Pristine Light for use in Sonar 3.1.1?pw wrote:headquest- well, I use alot of other plugs that don't require PDC, so I will and already do benefit from the aux send/returns. Plug-in delay is compensated in racks, with the caveat being that it will compensate for only one delay-causing plug per rack (i.e - 1 SIR good, 2 SIR bad).headquest wrote:[Tracktion's PDC]does not extend to racks, so you mustn't put SIR in a rack, basically, or your tracks will fall out of time with each other. As far as I know, this is the only way to use a plug like SIR on an aux bus in T1/T2: wrap SIR in a rack, load up your favourite verb IR, and disable the 'dry' output in SIR. Span this rack across your send tracks as well as its own discreet return track (setting the rack's wet/dry mix to 100% dry for the sends, and 100% wet on the return track), then adjust the 'input level' for each rack instance on the send tracks to taste.

I found this recently. Kinda sucks, huh?pw wrote:PDC doesn't work with aux sends/returns in T2. Big oversight for me, I must say.
Especially as I was firmly in the "pfft, PDC? who needs that!" camp.
