you guys don't have to be so silly about what i said. i need to be able to create an 8 track template, a 2 track template and a 16 channel template. to be able to instantly recall that template on the fly and be ready to go to record another set, in a few minutes, without having to pull the arrows over to the tracks for arming.
if i've missed something, don't beat me up for it. just give me the pertinent information.
i don't have time to read all day long in here. so the condescending replies are a waste of your time.
please only pertinent information, not digs. otherwise, go to usenet and let go with a bunch of crap on somebody else.
i do use this mixer software combination on a weekely basis. and i have yet to find a way to save templates for these configurations, tracks already assigned and enabled e2e, and all that. or am i missing something. this IS different from what im used to in the pro tools cubase world. so any nice people out there that have real information and not digs and condescention, please reply.
all i want to do here is get info so i can configure my setup to work quicker. someitmes, i have more than three bands to record in a days time. sometimes more than seven in a day. i need to figure out this feature if it exists. information please. and be nice. please. i work hard doing very stressful work. and to come home to this kind of crap really sucks.
now, make me some dinner and give me a back rub. a little cheesecake would be nice. with a chocolate milk. and a cold water for the table next to the bed wheil i sleep.
good night.

You didn't come in asking for "pertinent information", or you would have gotten a much different response. You came in declaring with smug certainty that T is not a pro app because it didn't do what you needed, then childishly stuck to your guns after finding out that it does, indeed, do what you want, albeit in a slightly different way. And now you come in wagging your finger then expecting people to behave as you dictate? Sorry there, sport... it doesn't work that way. You're right, though, we don't have to be "silly" about it... we (or at least I) choose to. Just like you chose to behave as you did.
Anyways, as has been said several times, just set up your template like you want it, save the edit (as tracktion appears to export the last save rather than the current condition of the edit), export it as an archive, then import that archive into any project where you need it. If you need multiple instances of a template, either use the "create a copy" button as someone else suggested, or open the template edit and "save as". All the inputs, plugins, etc. should be where you left them, or at least they always have been for me.
If you run into any problems, consider coming back and asking for help rather than prematurely declaring the method useless.

What a cock. Or a troll. Either way, everyone else knows how to do it by now.
In fact, an obvious troll. Anyone who posts a large reply explaining why they don't have time to read forums ...

You've been given the information at least twice in this thread.lharless wrote:if i've missed something, don't beat me up for it. just give me the pertinent information.

OK - the guy called Trackton a toy - he apologised for that & took it back. He is making a pertinent feature request - as another poster mentioned it could be useful to have 'true' more advanced template functions included. Is there really any need for people to start getting all personal on him - calling him a 'cock' etc. this is in general one of the better forums on the net - with plenty of experienced users willing to really help out new users & people with issues/questions - lets not ruin that with the kind of juvenile behaviuor that makes people not bother posting/reading eh? - Just the opinion of an old fart who had manners fair beaten into him as a kid.

Personally, I wasn't offended by him calling it a toy. To me, it is a toy in the sense that it makes recording a helluva lot more fun than any other program I've tried. Less frustration, less like work. And I honestly don't care whether or not it's a pro app. I'm not a professional recording engineer, I'm an amateur musician. But, as I said, the idea that the difference between a pro app and a "toy" is nothing more than a slightly different way of implementing templates seems like nonsense to me, and his "this is how it is because I say so" attitude is an open invitation to take him down a notch or two.

OK, I realized that the method I outlined earlier isn't that clear cut, but it is simple, so here is the detailed step by step to get you where you need to be.lharless wrote:if i've missed something, don't beat me up for it. just give me the pertinent information.
Open a new project.
Open the default edit and create your template.
"Save edit as" and give it a logical name.
make the changes for a additional templates and "save as" each one with a new name.
Return to the project screen and delete the "new edit #1" as we didn't save a template under that name.
Close the project.
Exit Traction, find your template files and move them to a directory all by themselves. I use a place that is easy find quickly like a directory right on my desktop.
Change all your template files to read only. This will keep you from accidentally saving over your templates.
Now, to use them, open you new project in Tracktion. Select "import material". Choose "Import all files in a directory..." and select your template directory. You will now have each of your templates available to open and use within that project. All of your inputs should still be hooked up as long as you haven't disabled any in settings. Because we changed each template to read only, "create a copy" doesn't do much good because it will be read only as well. From the edit window you will only be able to use "save edit as" which is good because not only are you kept from overwriting your templates but you are forced to give it a name that will make more sense to you than the default edit names. You will also be sure you are saving the edit in the right directory. It is going to default to your templates directory and you don't want it there. Let me know how this works for you.

my goodness man. i just tread the rest of this thread tonite. didn't have time to follow all the threads i've been interested in lately.haydxn wrote:yeah, there are just so many ways to do things i think he really just needs someone to hold his hand and tuck him in
please cease with the personal insults. i ask you this as a human. im not retarted, nor am i a kid who needs a hand to hold.
dude... you're bigger than this. c'mon. use your head. you wouldn't say things like this to a person on the street. you'd get popped down to juice in a second my boy!
my brain is fine. i assure you.
and it's people like you frankly that keep me from using internet discussion groups.
your way of communication and insulting folks who have something to say that may not have been what you would have said, is quite mean. and you're not appreciated for it.
honestly, everybody who read the post knows who the asshole is. so , im going to disregard your post from here out, and ill keep saying what i want.
but little buddy, you better make sure your behavior in life on the street doesnt get like your life in here, or you'll be hurtin someday.
your mouth tends to get away from you. and im sure you're always going to be like this.
i just hope it doesnt get you hurt. because im sure inside you is a nice guy somewhere. and i think that when you analyze your behavior, from the outside looking in. you'll laugh at yourself and see how perverse you're being lately.
but im sure it's just from frustration that not everybody is as up to speed as you are in the latest standard and way of doing things.
i have, and never will say anything mean or untrue about you. and you can rest assured that i will always take up for you, as i have in the past.
i like your website. i like your music. i like your art. i like the way you help out around here. you have so much potential.
be nice....
nice things happen to people with patience and who are helpful. and they have less heart attacks.

sorry to have offended you, but i think you might want to reread your initial posts, and then your quickfire responses to the initial replies; you had the most ridiculous tone and you weren't out to get help, you were out to put down.
i'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot. it's clear that you don't know anything about me; i don't normally get so pissy about things, although on some threads around here lately some people have been winding me up a treat. i won't get stupid with my posts unless someone pushes me to it; surely you can't deny that the way you went about things was entirely innappropriate for the ends you required? i'm don't think i'm the only one who found your tone at the start of this thread to be entirely the polar opposite of your more recent posts
i don't know anything about you either. so i apologise for the insulting way i've been with my posts. i cannot make judgements about you, and neither can you of me. just be a bit more accepting and polite when you go about making a point to start with and we'll get along just fine.

i don't owe you anything.
FR: an actual working forum, done by mackie or raw materials or whoever owns that company now, sanctioned by mackie, on a mackie.com website, that holds it's moderators subordinate and expects decent behavior and informative patience in their responses to posts, no matter how absurd they may feel the poster has been in their writings. i bought and paid for the hardware that included the software, so i deserve respect and consideration for the fact that i am a new user. i didn't arrange for the software to be free, but i do expect that if it's in the package from mackie that it be supported in some way that makes me feel like a respected mackie customer. so this forum is of no use to that end. this is not an official forum as far as i know, and if so, im going to make an official complaint to someone.
