CPU spikes

Hello!

Following the thread "Which convolution reverb" in the Effects forum I downloaded the Voxengo pristine space VST demo.

The sound of the reverb was fantastic but unfortunately I get ugly CPU spikes into the red every few seconds. :( Tested with T1 and T2 with the same result. If anything T1 worked somewhat better if the plug was inserted in the Master section, instead of directly on the track.

I have Cubasis on my computer, but no CPU spikes there... not in the Cubase SX demo either...

I've read about something called "denormalisation" occuring on P4 CPU:s, which is what I have. Therefore I activated "Add low level noise to avoid denormalisation" but to no avail. Lowering the latency doesn't seem to help.

I really like this reverb, and would like to get in on the group buy. Does this knowledgeable forum think it's a hopeless case?

I don't really know what to suggest, but i also downloaded the PS lite demo, and ran it in T2 with no problems. (also on a P4 in XP).

perhaps its worth trying different latency settings for Pristine Space itself?

Thanks for your answer.

That was what I tried. I'm not too anxiuos to increase the latency on my soundcard.

I have now tested the "other" suggestion, Convo boy, and everything seems OK, no CPU trouble. The sound quality also seems very good, at least I'm not sure I can hear any difference. Perhaps this is the way to go.

The Voxengo forum mentions CPU spikes in a couple of threads. Nothing definite seems to be said there though.

SIR is also very nice... and very affordable.

But it seems to have some kind of First Note Issue, (a much discussed issue here I believe).

A midi note placed on bar 1 beat 1 is silent, unless it is moved forward some small amount.

I'm new to all this so I don't know if this is expected behaviour?

I haven't noticed myself, but I usually start at bar 2 or 3 anyway..

Waves IR1 + Tracktion do well together, altough expensive.....

Anyone tried Glaceverb? It's pretty damn good and the price is dead right - free!

In case someone is interested, the new version 1.1 of Voxengo Pristine Space Light now works without problems in Tracktion, at least for me.

According to the release notes, the upgrade is supposed to take care of "denormal" problems.

So, happy ending after all. :)
