I was at Sounds Expo in London yesterday and a friend and I got a quick T2 demo and a chat with a helpful chap on the Mackie stand. As he was clicking and demoing away he said "This is the final version. We've had the Beta version for quite a while but we only got this (finished) version 3 days ago."
It might be a red herring, but maybe they have been polishing it over the last few weeks?

Actually I asked about plugins, he said that they still hadn't been finalised, and said one reason for this was that there were so many plugin vendors "want to get on board"djsubject wrote:Maby he had a copy of the boxed vershion with all the plugins?
I mentioned that the 'full' version of RMIV might swing the decision for me and he said he'd e-mail me as soon as as they were finalised and announced.I realise this doesn't really move us on and just fuels further specuation but I heard it so thought I'd share it

It is good to know that things are coming along. And although I don't expect it, if the plug-in list had some new vendors, then even better!
It comes as no surprise that while we have had this demo, they've been tweaking and bug-fixing. I think it was a good way to do a "public beta" of T2. We just didn't totally realize we were doing it. But it doesn't come as a surprise.
But until then, T1 is still great!

aaarg! If what we had was a public beta it was *not* a good way to do it! If I am going to download and use potentially faulty software ie. "beta" then I should be told! I hope that that is not how M were thinking about it....

No, it's not. Conspiracy theorists need to get out more. If Mackie wanted to do a public beta, they would have just done a public beta.
I'm quite certain they're surprised at bugs that are being found (ie. sped-up-clip render bug).

I never said that Mackie INTENDED this to be a public beta. I just said that since we WERE giving feedback, they went ahead and tweaked the code to fix bugs that were found. And I put "public beta" in quotes to imply that it wasn't intended, but rather since they DID have some time before release, and there WERE bugs found, it would make sense that they would fix them.
semiquaver, don't get so worked up. It was just meant in a general, assuming statement to say that Mackie probably figured, "Hey, if it improves things, let's do it".

I was just taking issue w/Koolkeys aassertion that it was a "good way to do a public beta of T2". 
To be honest I don't think the folks over @ Mackie are diabolical and are out to destroy us all. much. But it seems a stretch to find a silver lining in the "dribbled release" technique...

The purpose of a "Demo" is to attract new customers, not scare them (and existing ones) away with nasty bugs!
Well they shouldn't have been surprised by that one because it was in Tracktion 1. tell me something... releasing a demo a month before the official release is a bit vague...
and since the demo really does not let you do much.. it's got noise, cant render. The only ppl. who would use it at length would be existing users of T1. And theyd actually be the only ones using it to it's potential. And can then continue work with T1.
New customers would not be too inclined towards a demo that cant be bought immediately, if they like the product.

I think that after seeing the 8-page colour advert in Electronic Musician, or the many other adverts in the press, all of which direct interested people to check out the demo forthwith... that Mackie were hoping to pull in new customers to try out the demo.
