Tracktion compatability issue...

I'm getting an error on Tracktion startup that says:
Error opening audio device:
Error configuring audio output pin
Also after opening Tracktion, after going under the settings tab and into audio devices then selecting the wave device, there are no enabling/disabling prompts with Mackie XD2 selected. They're there under the Directsound selection, but when audio is played with Tracktion through Directsound the audio is distorted and garbled.
Mackie thinks it to be a compatability issue with my laptop (Toshiba Satellite M35x). Does anyone know anything about this compatibility issue? Are there any fixes? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Peace

It's not like you have oddball hardware. That's a pretty mainstream Intel 855GME based unit. Seems like a driver issue/conflict.
Have you done the usual stuff, like:
Are you using ASIO driver for the XD2?
Uninstalled the XD2 drivers?
Does Tracktion work fine with the onboard sound?
Re-install the XD2 drivers?
Disable the onboard sound?
And does it sound any different in USB mode vs Rec/Play mode?
And do you have any other USB devices connected which could be robbing bandwidth?
Can you try the XD2 on another similar, but *clean* Toshiba M35x?
Can you try another USB audio device and does it sound ok?
Troubleshooting, it may not be fun, but it can be long, tedious and unrewarding.

I tried everything above except trying it out on another Satellite M35, no difference between USB and rx/play, nothing else that could eat bandwtidth...also, when I play a song through the XD2 with WMP, the audio at the front panel headphone jack is crystal clear. Is this significant? That's Mackie's basis for saying Tracktion and this computer are incompatible, but I think that just proves a pathway to the front panel...any ideas?

Also, sound through my laptop speakers is perfect...and when I try to open the Mackie XD2 option for a wave device while it's disconnected, I get the same error as when the XD2 is connected...strange. Could this mean that the XD2 is not functioning properly?

Hey, we're just stratching the surface. Let's test some more...
Can you try the XD2 and its drivers with another ASIO audio app?
Oh, did you say that the onboard sound is fine with Tracktion? Or that the sound is fine via XD2 with WMP? Either case suggests a driver issue.
Did you uninstall the drivers, reboot, reinstall yet?
And does this occur at all sampling rates and bit depths?
Have you tried ASIO4ALL?
