Why no loop support in T2?

you can route any track to an audio track and record it, then disable the source track.[/quote]
That is good to know. How do I do this? I am not a proficient Tracktion user, I'm trying to learn with the demo right now, to figure out if I want to buy it. Routing audio from one track and recording it realtime into another is one of the things I am looking for, but haven't figured out if it's possible in T. Here are some features that are essential to me:
1. route audio from a softsynth or Rewire into an audio track and record the audio in realtime
2. ability to easily scroll through patches in outboard synths via program change
3. Acid like looping ability

You're forgetting about doing that with every 'frozen (if you'd like to call it that) track, and minimize them all to a sliver so you don't need to see them, then either forget about using F7, F8, F9 unless you want to shrink them all down again one by one. Of course you put all the frozen tracks at the bottom of the track lists. but then they aren't near their relative track, but you'd still need to shrink them manually again anyway. But, you know, it only takes a secondplatinumears wrote:So true..ModuLR wrote:thought...

now who would ever have guessed - another bleedin' freeze thread.
Braj, the problems with implementing a wider focus freeze in Tracktion *were* discussed in another thread. The problem is basically that because Tracktion has no fixed mixer layout, you cannot safely make assumptions about whichfilters can or should be included in a frozen track. Please search for that thread if you want to discuss this. It's an interesting topic, but a lot of ground has already been covered that doesn't need retreading.
headquest,
1) Tracktion's freeze *does* have an advantage over the narrow freeze. One file means that the user can work with audio and recordings on machines even with slow hard-drives (such as laptops). Spreading this across a number of different freeze files simply trades CPU usage for Hard Drive usage.
2) Please give it a rest already. You've made your point *countless* times. It's becoming difficult for even useful threads to survive an almost constant hijacking to beat a very dead and off-topic hourse.

Hey valley,
Don't blame me, I didn't bring it up. I even said let the dead horse rest, others after me kept commenting on it. Why not chastise them? Thanks.

Only the first paragraph[1] was directed at you.
[1] not the first line, which was directed at the world in general...

Let's begin by clearing up what the end result is that you have in mind. Do you want to record the audio produced by virtual instruments as a separate audio track? If so, that's better accomplished through either a) clever use of a mixer; or b) one of about 3 free VST's like TapeIt, which you just put at the end of the track in question. Sorted!Hypertone wrote:Routing audio from one track and recording it realtime into another is one of the things I am looking for, but haven't figured out if it's possible in T.
Otherwise, I personally prefer recording automation in realtime and then rendering later. The result will be the same, except editable.
See above. Just use a free 3rd party plug-in.1. route audio from a softsynth or Rewire into an audio track and record the audio in realtime
I don't know outboard synths, but I'm pretty sure this is NOT possible easily (or at all?) in T22. ability to easily scroll through patches in outboard synths via program change
Not presently supported. There have been strong hints that it will be added later, but that's not enough substance to affect your purchasing decision today.3. Acid like looping ability

*** Now briefly returning for our on topic 'tempo locked audio loop support' rant. I miss this function too. At first I was dissappointed it wasn't to be in T2. But now, especially after seeing the new FR list, I hope it becomes a lower priority for Jules / Mackie. The timestretched / tempo locked audio loop can be solved with a 3rd party plug. Maybe bundled or discounted.
Other very useful, but seemingly lower priority things on the FR list can only be done by Jules as they must be an initimate part of T, group clips, clip automation etc.. I would be happy to wait for t i m e s t r e t c h improvements until all the Hosty enhancements are complete. As complete as they ever can be, since software like cities, is never finished. Only abandoned.
Since even Cool Edit fer crying out loud, er, Audition has gone loopy T will be forced by inescapable market pressures and its selfish users to loopback and beatmatch this issue into a slice of history.
But then people will complain that T's tempo locked audio doesn't work on tracks that have been previously frozen.

ModulR strikes again with a concise bit of truth that hits home.ModuLR wrote:thought...

I actually do use freeze sometimes when I know I'm not mixing, just prepping to record a new audio track and don't want to bother with some previously recorded midi 'place-holder' cueing tracks that I tend to lay down to give me an idea of chord structure.
But render and adding a track is the better way to go if you know that the track is final and no note editing is going to take place in the future.
Back to the original point of the thread: Let's have actual time/pitch stretch, please. Much more of a concern for me than freezing tracks. Just wait till you hear my lame April KVR contest entry and you'll see why I rely on loops for beats.

Other than Rewire to another host, what are some plugins that will do loop tempo matching ala Acid? Not being cheeky; I'm just wondering what is available.mandolarian wrote:The timestretched / tempo locked audio loop can be solved with a 3rd party plug. Maybe bundled or discounted.

Wow - does eXT do this?! I didn't know - thanks for the heads up Lunch MoneyLunch Money wrote:Using a beatslicer like Dicer, Phatmatik Pro, eXT, or Intakt will do it.

Do any of these tools automagically sync to Tracktion's tempo? When I'm trying out ideas I don't want to spend a lot of time or effort with beat slicing. I'm mostly interested in quickly inserting some drum loops. And yes, I'll take some cheese with my whine.Lunch Money wrote:Using a beatslicer like Dicer, Phatmatik Pro, eXT, or Intakt will do it.

All of them do.chardin wrote: Do any of these tools automagically sync to Tracktion's tempo?
They can usually do an OK pass of beat slicing without too much user input too.
For rythmic stuff, beat slicing is often one of the better approaches to time stretching. It doesn't work so well for other duties though.

To be honest, I'm a real simpleton. Even though I've tried and tested eXT and found it to work fine, I still prefer arranging my loops in Plasma Express, rendering as audio, and then importing into Tracktion.
Or in other words, I have my own workaround, but I'd still like to see it a Tracktion feature.
