This is now the official Feature Requests Thread for Albino. Please post all feature requests and suggestion for Albino here and _not_ start a different thread. We monitor it, but will not comment on every suggestion. However, you can be sure we check it in depth and carefully when we work on a new version of Albino. The thread was originally started by MacQ, now changed to a new title and made sticky by Peter from LinPlug

Hi,

Now that Cronox 3 is in final beta and is only hours from release (pure wishful speculation) ... the following are my suggestions for Albino 3:

1. More effects. At least 4, with options for parallel or serial routing - ie. a reverb into a phaser (serial), or both at once on the dry signal (parallel). I know you know what this means, I just thought I'd clarify for those who don't.

2. Dedicated distortion FX section (in any FX slot) with all of the usual suspects as options (distortion, rectifier, wave shaper, bit/sample rate reducer, etc.)

3. FX presets seperate to the patch presets, selectable in the interface and saveable in a simlar fashion.

And that's about it. I know it's a bigger CPU hit, but it'll make Albino sound so sexy. I was playing around with post processing, and if you run additional reverb and delay on top of the reverb and delay already on some patches, it just makes Albino sound SO great. Some people will whine about it, but it's been making lousy synths sound great for years (like old Korg romplers).

It's my go-to synth everytime. It gets used in every mix, and everything I've had released has Albino in there somewhere. :D

Great stuff.

Thanks,

~MacQ

Thnx allot MacQ for the suggestions.

But first we want to release the Albino2.2 with some new fresh additional preset and as native RTAS version. :D

I had a few request for more of some types of sounds.
So if you have preset wishes, just drop a note.

Cheers,
Rob

Any possibility of some additional modulation matrix options for Albino 2.2? e.g. being able to route Amp Env to Amp Attack/Amp Decay (recursive modulation) to get non-linear attack/decay, just like I can on my Virus A :D

Alternatively, just being able to tweak the shape of the envelopes would be nice :). This is about the only thing that stops Albino becoming my work-horse synth...

thanks,

Andy

I think thats a good point (for Albino 3), what do you think Rob ?

Hi,

I looked into the Virus b and the Envelope times of Attack, Decay and so on can be modulated.

Using the Envelope again as modulation source makes that the time changes dynamicly. So you do get a more non-linear envelope. If the envelope is already no-linear (expotential) it gets even more expotential.

Better would be to set this in the envelope itself. So from that point it is for sure something for Albino3.

Depending how much work it is, Peter could ad the "attack", "decay", "sustain-fade" and "release" as modulation target.
But how much work that is... :help: I don't know.

Rob

Rob: I'm sure this isn't news to you, since you programmed a good number of sounds on the Virus... but if you use positive modulation values, you get a convex attack or decay, if you use negative modulation values, you get concave attack or decay.

I like using concave decays for controlling the pitch and amplitude of electronic kicks. Add a bit of that saturation and enjoy :hihi: It does make the synth so much more versatile.

Peter: I know modifying the envelopes directly would be a lot of work (so def something for Albino 3) and this would obviously be the "proper" way to do it. However, more advanced users would be quite happy with the modulation matrix solution I'm sure, as long as a note was added to the manual.

I'd be happy with either (or even both) approach(es).

thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy,

I was always happy with the Envelope expotential curve of the Virus b. Made even a few nasty kicks with it. It never came to my mind to increase the curve using your trick. Wicked!

The Alesis Andromeda has much control on this issue, but has because of this also a few problems. It makes a synth slow to program and less spontanius.

The FM7 has a fully free programable slope, just like my new synth ahead. That would be the perfect solution for Albino3. For the new synth I use a default setting of 15% (expotential) which is good for most settings.
For filter sweeps I love the linear curves.

The Attack, Decay, Sustain-fade and Release as modulation target (Albino2.2) would be a good idea. At least if it is workable for Peter.
Note that such a modulation target would increase the CPU use. Of course... not such a big deal anymore these days.

Cheers,
Rob

... how about the ability of modulating the balance of the digital oscillators with the arpeggiator for some "wavetablish" rhythms (or with an envelope for "classic" wavetable synthesis)? and how about an arpeggiator and chord mode for every oscillator, as they already can have their own LFO and envelope?

Post

I mentioned this in an earlier thread but here would be a more appropriate place to post it...

The Analog oscillator sync function is a welcome one, and so an obvious point is that it would nice to be able to sync the waveforms on the Digital oscillators as well. The ability to combine oscillator sync with waveform morphing on the Digital oscillators would make Albino an even stronger sound design tool than it currently is.

Oh, and I second the vote for multiple distortion algorithms to choose from at the filter saturation stage.

@Loachm

Balance of the Digital wave osc. is an old whish. But it would be very CPU consuming because of the way the waveforms are generated.
Arpeggiator for each osc. is an interesting idea.
We keep that in mind.

@Rusty
Other distortion algos is also a good idea.

Thx

Hi Peter and Rob,
I use Albino 3 quite a lot in my records and have a few suggestions for Albino 3 if I may.

As a Virus B user I have noticed that I can replicate almost any sound from the Virus with Albino.
This offers me several advantages - sample accurate timing, total recall of patches inside the sequencer host, no cabling etc...

But the Virus still has a larger amount of timbres available. Why? For two main reasons really:

1. The greater range of signal distortions and shapers available in the Virus - soft, hard, digital, shaper, sample reduction, bit crusher etc...

BTW -I love the filter/sat module on Albino , and abuse it regularly :) I just wish that it had more of a range of distortion/waveshaping options.

2. The Virus has a bigger chain of effects available - four really - simultaneous phase, chorus, distortion and delay. (I like the vintage sounding phaser on the Virus btw.)

That is about the only difference. Therefore you if you were to include those it would make it equal to the Virus B series.

However, as well as adding the above, I would like to see Albino 3 go way beyond that and to have it's own sound.

My suggestions would be to:

1. Expand the filter modules to include a few more exotic types, perhaps vocal formant, Comb filter (like the Waldorf Q) Notch+Low pass (like on the Nords) Vanguard has one or two really useful ones too.

2. Another FM mode or two would be useful. FM via noise etc. The Nords have the best sounding FM for my money btw.

3.A button to link the two cutoffs like on the Virus , because it allows one to set an offset and control both cutoffs via one controller.

I do manage to kind of get around this for some types of sounds by using two slots in the Mod Matrix and assigning them both to mod wheel BUT I cannot set an offset amount like this so a cutoff link would be really useful

One other thing, I see no advantage to having the different filter modules respond to different cc numbers. Can you make it so that which ever filter module is loaded in "slot 1" then that will receive the same cc as any other filter module(s)loaded into that same slot.

Cheers for a fantastic synth and thanks for listening.

Cheers,
Bill
