I came across this in the FR – Notation thread and thought it was worth making into its own topic:

Another cool thing is routing the midi into Tracktion so you can use vsts instead of soundfonts to listen to what your doing while working in Anvil.
Could someone go through the steps needed to set this up? I’m pretty new to a lot of this and might be missing something obvious.

Thanks,

Just bumping this to the top in case somebody has some newbie level tips on how to do this.

Thanks,

I assume you would need to use MIDI Yoke, or similar, to route the MIDI output of the other app into Tracktion.

I don't have MIDI yoke istalled though.. maybe someone else could be more specific..?

Thanks Platinumears I'll take a look at MIDI Yoke.
If anybody can step through the setup process to get these things all working and playing well together, I'd appreciate it.

As far as I remember: MIDI Yoke will create "Virtual MIDI ports" on your system. You should now be able to assign Anvil's MIDI out to one of these virtual ports, while enabling the same port as an input in Tracktion.

Thats the best i can do without installing it .. ;)

Yup,platunumears is correct, you'll have to install midi yolk to conn3ect the midi out to tracktion. Midi yolk will give you 8 virtual midi ports, so eg. in anvil select midi out midi yolk NT:1 , then in tracktion set up a vst in a track and enable midi yolk nt:1 in settings and connect and your off.
The problem is I don't think you can sync the start and stop and record between the two programs? So I just do a midi export into tracktion afterwards. Maybe some know how to sync them?
Nobody's a nobody...

Thanks for the additional info Platinumears and thanks for the walk-through Max 8)
I’ll DL the Yoke and give it a shot, though it may be the weekend until I can get it all up and running.
If anyone has ideas on syncing Traction and Anvil, I’m all ears.

Thanks again, and hey JT :)

one thing to remember is that MidiYoke will almost definitely require a system restart before it will work, so once you've installed it, to a reboot to save yourself pain trying to figure out how to get it to work.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
