i can't figure out how to step-record from the beginning of the clip!

i tried the step record mode yesterday and was having problems; it's okay if i have the cursor some way into the clip, but if it's right at the beginning it doesn't work. does this make sense?

Hey I am going through some old bug reports. Is this still happening Haydxn (or anyone else). If so can you give me more detailed steps to reproduce it?

y'know, i can't get it to happen now 
i imagine it was probably something to do with snap. i guess the clip was JUuust a little bit off the beginning of the bar, then when i tried to do it from the beginning it wasn't actually in it..
i'll keep an eye out tho incase it pops up again
