Howdy everyone,
Recording newbie here. I'm using Tracktion 1. When I use the Rednef Twin amp simulator of Guitar Suite, I have sound coming from the left monitor only, and the Tracktion level meters both on the track and the master level show a level on the left only. I remove the Rednef filter, and I get left and right levels on my meters, and sound through both monitors. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

The plugin only accepts mono input and only produces mono output. Get a plugin that converts a mono signal to stereo, whether it's a chorus, flange, phaser, or just a simple copy of the left signal to the right.

I can't suggest any right now because I don't know any off the top of my head (maybe most stereo out plugins will do this).

there's a tracktion native filter that does this.

Look for the "patch bay" filter in the Tracktion filters, and add it after your plug.

Select the plug, and in the properties panel, It'll show two sets of left and right pins. Drag lines from the leftmost 'left' pin to both of the pins on the right-hand side.

actually, correcting myself:

you will probably not see two pins on the left side of the patchbay interface. In your case, there will only be one pin on the left, and two on the right. Just connect that single pin to the other two.

First thing I always do is select my audio device, and when the settings appear in the bottom context window, I uncheck the option for "treat as stereo pair". I'd rather treat both my inputs as mono, since I rarely record in stereo.

Actually, only in Tracktion versions prior to 1.3 this thing would happen. Jules then fixed this. Rednef Twin works over here as expected. So no need to call up the Patch Bay filter.
Probably Greg is right and you use a Stereo input device with sound only getting into one of its channels.

No problem here (T1.6) with rednef. Works as expected but I always have the "treat as stereo pair" unchecked (as Greg suggested)

Alrighty, thanks a lot guys. I got the problem fixed, but somehow, almost everything you guys told me seems to be wrong! :o :D For example, my version of Tracktion is 1.6.01, yet I still had this issue. :?: I have the "Treat as stereo pair" option unchecked, yet I still only get output to one monitor when I use Rednef (or JCM, apparently whatever I use in Guitar Suite). I recorded another track just to make sure. I did call up the Patch Bay filter (as valley suggested :)), and I did have two pins on the left (as valley temporarily suggested), and I drug the arrows from the left pin to both pins on the right, and that fixed it.

So I'm happy it works, but I'm befuddled as to why I had to use the patch bay filter, when I shouldn't have needed to since I have v1.6.

Comments?

Nothing other than-- you shouldn't have needed it. ;)
