Seriously off topic, I was going to post to the hardware forum (I might do as well) but as I only want to work in Tracktion anyway I'd love to hear if any tracktioneers have any thoughts or experiences.

It's new notebook time for me, and I'm impressed with a whitebook Clevo model, D900T I think, which has quite literally everything you could possible want in a notebook, depending how you spec it (up to 3.8 HT Pentium 4, 4 Gb RAM, even a dual hard drive RAID configuration 0 or 1 is possible). You're limited by your budget. The machine weighs over 5kg as well. A specialist PC mob in the UK called Nusystems market it. Because this is a whitebook, it's a breeze to upgrade hard drive, RAM, even the graphics card as you can spec a PCI express card I think.

Anyways I was wondering if anyone else working with Tracktion uses this model or a notebook with a desktop processor, if there's any issues I should be aware of.

Cheers

tim using a d500p, sager midern. same as the clevo. be wary of serious case problems and screen hinge problems with the sager/clevo stuff.

im actually going mac for tracktion on my next purchase. a buddy uses tracktion on a mac and has very little problems. i wonder if using a mac, i could get all 16 channels simultaneously and be able to edit all 16 and do overdubs without artifact or noticeable delay or latency?

hmmm...

ill have to think about this one. ill read up on it. i like the simplicity of the mac, and all i do is audio mostly anyway, so it's not like im going to be missing out on my favorite dvd software or something, by going mac. i do internet (bad boy!!) on my audio machines too, but im pretty good about keeping everything cleaned out. with a mac, this would never be a problem. but im wondering about the processing power of a mac in relation to a pc's capability. i know the numbers are different, but the performance of a mac is always more efficient for audio i've been told.
ill have to see it happen before ill buy one, but they sure are inviting with all the talk about stability.

...sigh...

can't wait for summer. im gonna go lay in a huge field of grass, somewhere near the ocean, with a case of pale ale in hand, to contemplate my future purchase.

No doubt about it, those powerbooks look great, but for better or worse I'm stuck in a windows world, just for now. Lots of legacy software, my work uses windows, etc.

For your info, I got a few replies on the hardware forum who basically said there isn't a great performance improvement regarding the desktop pentium and a dual hard drive RAID configuration. I wonder if the new AMD 64 bit processors may be a better option.

I really want to get my next notebook purchase right, hopefully a machine I can upgrade myself. That's what started me down the whitebook road.
