Ahh, so that's why we get all that abstract art? :hihi:

Given a decent amount of paint sniffing, I'm sure those colours will start looking *really* colourful :)

Oh well, have I understood this right? It doesn't really matter if the track level meters clip, as long as the master meter doesn't?

Post

That's the ticket.

Actually the other way around... and then you trim the master fader...

No, he's got it right. It doesn't matter if the track meters show a clip.

and ive been ignoring it. I know. Just doesnt fit into the way ive learnt to engineer. a clip is a clip. If you clip digital, you go to jail... and often I hear the clip to. Why do you have clip indicators then..

is it all that matters is not clipping while recording... after that 32bit gives you enouh headroomm to work withought clipping?

Post

Exactly. Clipping on the way in will produce nasty ugly unmusical distortion. But once you're safely inside, it's pretty much smooth sailing.

Regarding the question: why have meters? Well, since your final destination shouldn't be clipped (ie. when rendering/exporting), it still proves helpful so that you know all your tracks aren't insane.

BUT, I mean... ModuLR is working without track level meters now. <chuckle> So it's not strictly necessary.

I've been deleting the little bastards for ages! Its amazing how much space you get back aswell.. but if you don't clip on the way in, or the way out, it won't clip anywhere else. :)

i get it now!! im getting rid of those meters too... (at least ill try!)

:D

one more thing.. does it work the saem way with plugs also.. very ofen (with EQ's mostly) tweaking leads to the indicators on the plug clipping... nevermind ??

I still dont understand why do we clip indicators during playback if it does not matter ?

Because you can drag filters on a blank audio clip.

I found the meters more useful in T1 because they indicate which track is active in a sense, but with the new input indicators.. you can see what's active without them. I feel much better without them... (but it won't be everyone's cup of tea). Use the force, young jedi! (I can't believe I just made a starwars reference, WTF? lame) :hihi:
