Got my Receptor Last night and spent about 3 hours
acquainting myself with it.
Found it quite easy to set up the remote software and control it from my ibook. In a very short time I was able to set up some rudimentary presets that were easily navigated from the front panel. Editing individual plugins via the computer is slightly clunky, though it works. It is hard to "grab" the knobs here and there. This might be Mac only.
Some of the freebie synths are very nice!!! I am shipping a 160GB drive off to Muse to have it prepared to be installed, and expect 2GB of RAM to show up today or tomorrow. I requested a crossgrade of Kompakt as well. When that is all set, I will load in a medium sized piano library, set the DFD settings as recommended, cross my fingers and hope I can play it with livable latency and without fear of the sustain pedal. That will be the make or break issue for me - and the real reason I bought it. The other stuff is all nice, but icing on the cake for me. In related news...I corresponded with a rep from Synthogy, makers of Ivory, who says they have spoken to Muse about the possibility of running Ivory on the Receptor. This is very exciting to me.

u SouNd prETty HapPy wiTh it. I aDmiT, the ConCePt is GreAT, but iT is eXtremELy unDerpowereD...
For $1400 plus $200 Minimum for 2G Memory, plus a hard drive, plus shipping it to them, plus crossgrades you end up spending nearly $2,000. Dont think you're playing this thing with 256 memory. 3 tracks will have you hovering at around 80% CPU usage. No ADAT in? It should at least ship with 2g memory. Plus, the processor should be replaceable with a higher powered one. They are dirt cheap and a 2500 Athlon is starting to sound like "cassette tape". They should really consider better ties with software manufacturers and come to agreement. Software manufactuerrs should realize that there would be a ton of less warEz out there if this was marketed the right way. EVE is great. they should include another premium for free as well. Sampletank? that would be pretty.

We do listen to feedback so your points are well taken, but here's the glass half full.
The Receptor is built to boot and run, and it does just that. It will never do something like lose its audio output assignments.
The mixer is constantly under development with new features to improve its use as a tool and instrument. We are now already working on our 3rd update since we released this product in Oct. 2004.
Sure, computers are always an upgrade race but with 2GB of RAM in a Receptor, you can make a lot of intelligent noise, and with the 1.3 build sample playback will improve even more.
We have one source for techincal support, regardless of the issue. So no one has to wade through automated voice-mails searching for the right department, and when we are contacted, we respond quickly. Moreover, we are always looking at ways to bring a much broader support for all plugins.

and slagging companies in their own forum is like shitting in your kitchen. Just doesn't make any sense.

1. I chose to get the extra 160GB disc because of my intended use. - not necessary for some other uses.mmenta1 wrote:u SouNd prETty HapPy wiTh it. I aDmiT, the ConCePt is GreAT, but iT is eXtremELy unDerpowereD...

2. You cite a $2000.00 figure as if it is prohibitive. For me, if I can get it to do what I want, $2000.00 looks pretty sweet.
3. Don't need ADAT in. Don't even need 3 tracks. I'm looking for something more robust than a laptop to use for live performance- especially for piano.
4. Other folks are planning other uses, and that speaks to the versatility of the concept. I can only speak for myself.

Yes Rick, Id agree & staNd by your Xcellent customer service. Never used it personally, but have been side by side with someone who did and there is no call forwarding or wait time where we twiddle our thumb and curse out that "lady". I believe you were the one whom picked up the line aND u weRe extremely helpfuL and knowleDgeable not like YamAha that dont know a damn thiNg about some of their Products. The customer service alone is SoMething 2 strive on and is the BEST I know of. I didNt Mean too knocK the Receptor but when it boils down to it, we dont want to buy a car to find out the engine wont take us to where we need to go [i suck @ analoGies]. Its more of a memory/processor issue I guess. Different versioNs of the Machine wouLd be great. souP it up, and siNce its balls are oNstage, give it some different faceplate options. I understand its geared toward live Use but this CouLd be a ViaBLe studio tooL as WeLL. Adat In wouLD make thiS a Monster. Kurzweils high end effects box that they charge over $2,000 for wouLd be put to shame when you have a Very Clear, iNtuitive GUI and endless Possibilites wiTh all the free effects vsts. but everythiNg has its shorTcomings and peopLe always wAnt More More More... keep up the gooD work and Im Looking forward to usiNg the UNIWIRE. Are you at liberty to discuss this in more depth? I'm wondering if this has to do with Receptor's streaming from it's own disk, or if it will support external drives, or what....

It's a result of a change to the Linux kernel we are including for 1.3.

Cool! Looking forward to it.
If I can't get 1.2 to work for me I will hold onto the unit at least until 1.3. I'm very enamoured of the idea behind the product and I like the frequency of updates thus far.
As it is now, it could do alot of things for alot of musicians. I just have specific needs for this particular box!! Else....I may have to go the dreaded laptop on stage route.
