One guitar option could be GeoffKhan's Ultimate Guitar Kit soundfont, you can grab it from audioshots. I'm really looking forward to his bass soundfont, the demos sound fan-tas-tic.

Thank you pakanapakana wrote:One guitar option could be GeoffKhan's Ultimate Guitar Kit soundfont
I had already tried checked that out and downloaded the Soundfont: Definitely the best + most realistic so far! Geoff's demos are really incredible, and he plays the VSTi in the best possible way, making it sound like a real player with a real instrument.
PS: I also checked out 'Manytone' but found it disappointing, far from sounding "real"

I believe Mackie tried to create the "virtual" band in their selection of bundles. Let's take a look, shall we:
RMIV (full version) - analog and sampled drums, lots of complete kits, lots of MIDI grooves.
Claw, Free Alpha - great for bass synths
SampleTank - looking at the samples that come bundled, lots of acoustic stuff like strings, horns, basses, acoustic guitars, pianos.
Slayer - Guitar modeller, can emulate many different styles of guitar types, tones, playing.
Amplitube - Amp modeller, is killer when combined with Slayer or with a real guitar (for real guitar players).
SF-1 Soundfont player - 10 million free soundfonts out there, surely there are a few you can enjoy and use.
M-Clav/M-Pad - quick percussive keys and pads for tne non-programers in the crowd.
All in all, I think that this bundle was clearly thought out to allow 1-man bands at the basic and at the detailed programming level. It reflects Tracktion's philosophy of clean UIs and great sound.
How do I know so much? I work for Mackie and signed all of the bundle deals for T2.

Yes, I counted every Soundfont. There are exactly 10 million of them, no more, no less. Ever.

Yes, the Natural Studio drumkit sounds very real and alive, I am using this one now (until I will maybe find something better). The worst sample in it is the crash cymbal, I'll have to replace that (and maybe the kick drum as it has a tad too much treble in it), but I'll keep all other drum samples. This kit is the best I found until now. Yeah, it's a good old 'Gretsch' drum kit that they sampled, and for a drummer, a Gretsch often has the perfect sound: A bit on the vintage side, but not too much, and still used in modern productions (also Jazzrock). So the soundfont by Natural Studio is perfect for what I need.Lunch Money wrote:I like the Natural Studio drums, too. Funny, though, last time I used them, in the end I swapped out everything except for the Toms for various Kingston Drums samples. (also free)
For solo guitar, I am still using the Spanish Guitar from 'Plugsound Free', it's simply beautiful and can easily be used in nearly every tune (even with a bit of overdrive effect it still works musically - try it as this is quite a phenomenon). For rhythm guitars, I am now using Geoff Kahn's 'Ultimate Guitar Kit' which is the best (while 'Slayer 2' is probably good for Rock and Heavy Metal guitar riffs), and for the "most realistic" piano I am now using Geoff's soundfont of the sampled Akai grand. Still waiting for Geoff to finish his 'Ultimate Bass Kit'. Yes, he's the man when it comes to creating realistic sounding virtual instruments - this, for example, is simply incredible and sounds like real musicians (actually this is the first piece of "sampled music" I *ever* heard that has a real human groove in it): http://herculeaneffort.adventuredevelop ... 20demo.mp3
So, with these great samples by Geoff, my little "virtual band" is sounding quite realistic already. Add a bit of VintageWarmer (yeah, just had to mention that one again
And for the soundfonts, I am now using bs-1 instead of sfz, it works much metter for multiple instances.
All this is very enjoyable, I am spending days and nights with Tracktion, trying to learn everything I can do with it - thanks again for your help guys!

I find drum samples always sound better through a nice distortion pedal like audio damage's free fuzz...

The "buy our porduct, its everything you're going to need" is definitely geared to the newbee. If they bundled Kontakt 2, Atmosphere, Stylus RMX and Trilogy with T2, then I would be impressed.

Have they ever said 'it's all you're going to need?' I don't recall hearing that.bugs wrote:The "buy our porduct, its everything you're going to need" is definitely geared to the newbee. If they bundled Kontakt 2, Atmosphere, Stylus RMX and Trilogy with T2, then I would be impressed.

No, but that's the impression they are trying to give. When I talk to students, that is what they say.braj wrote:Have they ever said 'it's all you're going to need?' OK, they did say this:
But they also said this:
OK, they did say this:
So I can see that may be a bit of a stretch (though want and need are different)Tracktion is a revolutionary, easy-to-use music production application that contains everything most people will ever need to professionally record and mix music on a Mac or PC
But they also said this:
I don't think they are over-blowing the bundle here. Anyway, if they bundled $1500 in pro gear with a $150 sequencer I'd be astounded. As it is I'm pleased if not blown away. The goal was to give T2 users all the basic music-making and mixing tools, right out of the box. So we partnered with every developer who would return our calls to bring you a full suite of high-quality "name-brand" effects plug-ins, virtual instruments, and loops. Here's just a partial list of all the goodies that come bundled with T2. *
