Has anyone got a screenshot or information on how best to set up Jamstix with Tracktion?

Thanks

no screenshot, but this is all you do.

insert jamstix as a new filter on a new track. right click on it to wrap it in a new rack filter.

if you are using a program like BFD, create that as a newfilter and then drag it in after jamstix in the rack. connect the MIDI outs in the rack together and you should be set.

No need to use racks unless you have some other reason to do so.

If you are using the audio jam feature you need to set the relevant audio input on to the track *before* you add jamstix as a filter otherwise jamstix may not 'see' the audio output of the track. See also www.rayzoon.com - there is a specific support thread there for Tracktion in the forum with a screenshot of exactly how to set it up.

To use an external drum module you can do this in the mappings tab in jamstix - I use sfz and ns_kit no problems.

I'm only concerned with midi and vsts at the moment.

If I want to play bass (for example) and have Jamstix jam along, do I put them both on the same track? If I do, I can't hear the vst.

So, do I need to use a rack somehow?

A rack will allow the MIDI to pass through, if Jamstix doesn't already output MIDI.

Jamstix does pass midi iirc

Read this 4 page thread at the Jamstix site (all Tracktion specific) http://rayzoon.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=38 and if that doesn't clear it up post on it - they are super-fast at responding :-)

Thanks for this. I've already read the 4 Tracktion pages on the Rayzoon site, but unfortunately I still don't get it.

I understand that I have to connect my midi input icon to a track containing Jamstix as a filter, but I need to place another vst somewhere, so I can hear what I'm playing (This is if I want to jam with Jamstix, rather than just use it as another drum vst).

If I put it on the same track as Jamstix, then it doesn't play. So I presume that I put Jamstix in a rack, but where do I put that so that I can hear my other vst?

Sorry if I'm being dumb!

I don't have a midi input set up so I can't help, sorry. :-(

thats why you wrap it as a rack..

well it works great for me, but i may be using it differently.

Is this the best way to set up Jamstix in Tracktion for jamming with a midi keyboard?

I can't tell what's going on, but it doesn't look like it...

Whatever those 2 plug-ins are, they're both being driven by the MIDI. If you want BFD to be driven by Jamstix, it has to receive Jamstix' MIDI information, not your keyboard's.

Mostly, I just can't tell what's going on, though. <chuckle>

I'm using Jamstix own samples, and the other vst is used for playing bass (for example). So, I'm using my midi keyboard to play bass, and the midi info is also going to Jamstix as information for it to jam to.

It seems to work, and hopefully I'm interacting with Jamstix, rather than it just following the track bpm.

I've seen a suggestion that you might be able to put Jamstix on its own track, but somehow you would have to route midi to both the vst (e.g. bass) track and the Janstix track. I don't know how to do this.

this is what you do...open BFD all. Wrap it as a rack. Then add Jamstix and open it in front of BFD in that rack (to the left sideo BFD. Connectthe MIDI lines together so they are one line that goes in and out. you then can out an instance of each track in a different channel so you can mix each drum individually.

i use a keyboard to control the drums and make the beats. i then map them out in the arranger and mix them..it sounds awesome.

Alan, your screenshot looks correct. MIDI arrives at both VSTs simultaneously so you can play your VST and Jamstix can see the MIDI data at the same time.

In free jam you should see the velocity slider in Jamstix move as you play. That's your confirmation that it is working.
