Hi guys,

Quick background for ya. Been composing stuff on PCs since 1996, using Cakewalk 3 on Windows 95 (I think, memory is a bit sketchy  ). Have always been a PC guy but seem to always have annoying computer problems that inhibit me from getting stuff done. That being said...

I'm about to give up on Tracktion 1 on the PC. Running an Athlon XP 2500+/1G DDR RAM in Windows XP SP1 with an Edirol FA-101 firewire audio interface. Having 2 problems that are making me consider switching to Mac:

1. Click track gets badly out of sync and wanders all over the place. Never seen anything like it. Got latency on the Edirol set very low so I have no audible delays when playing instruments. This all works great but the click track has me totally befuddled. Have tried running ASIO settings in both direct and non-direct modes.

2. When playing my external Alesis D4 drum module from Tracktion, there is occasionally a huge burst of several drum sounds all at once as if Tracktion is freaking out on the midi data it's sending out. Like maybe a buffer is getting cleared out or something. Again, not sure where to go with this one.

I've had other crazy problems come up but these are the top ones in my radar scope at the moment. Tired of hearing my Mac buddies tell me that their stuff "just works". Anyone have any ideas they care to share? Thanks for your time.

Stuff "just works" here in WinXP (both home & pro), on three different systems. Switching to another platform and spending thousands is kind of a radical solution, isn't it?

Perhaps too low? Did you try raising it a bit

Is your system optimized? Does the problem occur in any projects or just some?

Providing some more details on your setups and on the problems might help people help you.

Hope you'll sort things out.

1. Sorry, can't help.

2. I found that Tracktion 1 was processing information that it wasn't able to process, but as MIDI information. Since T1 doesn't sync to MIDI equipment (on PC OR on Mac), I just used MIDI OX (www.midiox.com) to filter out NRPN and other extraneous information. Worked like a charm.

Do your Mac friends have the same setup as you? It's not really the platform that's causing your problem, and switching to Mac wouldn't automatically clear it up. ;)

mac speedy for floating point math. Pretty pretty - nice screen fonts. Audio and midi handling (including patching midi between apps) all in system software. Even (in Tiger) native 64 bit float format. Device names, etc etc all published. easy.

problem #1: what output device is the click set to? Try setting it to your main audio out if its not already.. whatever you do, don't send it to the Microsoft Wavetable Synth!!

Just wanted to thank all you guys for the suggestions! Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot this lately but will be doing so soon.
