I find re-ordering and re-sizing tracks clumsy and not an easy workflowLunch Money wrote: I wonder if people just aren't latching on to the fact that you can re-order and resize your tracks. For the re-ordering, the 'snapshot' feature that Braj alluded to would make different 'combinations' or subsets possible.
Greg
The snapshot feature would alleviate that... which could be part of a folder tracks implementation.

this snap shot FR realy seems like it can do more than i thought!!! it can do lock track size, be a tracktion mixer workaround that no one can complain about (but we will
) & meny meny more that i will work out all by myselfe (just after i read the next helpful post telling me what it could be used for)
this is becoming my top FR i think?

I do not care for the idea of a mixer... I like the current method... What I like about a mixer is that all the level and pan sliders or knobs and the meters are in a fixed relationship. If there were an option to set a fixed size for meters and volume/pan on each/all tracks in Tracktion, that would make it less confusing when I glance at it.
along with snapshot/folder tracks... these ideas would add refinement to the Tracktion model and I think reduce the reasons people ask for the mixer.

I think this could work! If we could have snapshots available at the click of the button (that would only affect track ordering, sizing etc) then we could have one view with all tracks on screen, one with all the submixes, one showing all your render and mute source tracks, etc and keep a mixer out of the picture. As long as I can manage what I see and have flexibility, I could care less if it were horizontal. It would take care of folder tracks for the most part as well, since you can have one view where all your tracks for drums are topmost.djsubject wrote:this snap shot FR realy seems like it can do more than i thought!!! it can do lock track size, be a tracktion mixer workaround that no one can complain about (but we will) & meny meny more that i will work out all by myselfe (just after i read the next helpful post telling me what it could be used for)

I'm cooking dinner and not focusing much on this, but it would be better than a mixer. And something like platuinumears' modular thing could still happen as a separate thing.

well its only half there
the code in there that your thinking of will save the hole project no?
(he plays with synthedit for 25 minits & thinks he can code)
(thats me not you BTW
)
& maby the top numbers could be screen shots & the number pads the marker jumpers or visa versa
assainable of course for you lap top users

Nah, the code is almost all there, I would imagine.
An edit simply contains a series of pointers, including where the tracks are positioned. All this function would do is update those pointers all at once (as opposed to one at a time the way we do when moving a track's order) and refresh the screen.
The theory is easier than easy; however, I don't know if there are obstacles in the inner workings.

I would imagine this would be easier to implement than nearly any other track-related option ie. true folder tracks or some sort of mixer (or whatever you feel comfortable calling it). Greg's right I assume, I can't imagine much code would be involved.

Co-incidence?
Or just that teachers have no imagination?
... what worries me though is that i might be on the same mental wavelength as some ageing hippy steptoe lookalike ...

I do not want a mixer. Instead, I want snapshots and (maybe) folder tracks. That's all I need. If you put a mixer in Tracktion, I will switch to ProTools

I changed the name of the FR to be 'snapshots' since that makes more sense with T.
