I am a teacher, also. I agree with Braj. It's not the end of the world, and it gives the child an opportunity to see two things:
1. Adults also are not perfect
2. Adults also owe children apologies sometimes
It'll be good for both of you.
ALSO-- sometimes kids are VERRY good at manipulating us. The child might not have truly been offended but may have seen the opportunity to get some attention. Be sure (especially as a teacher!) that firm words and "poorly chosen" words are not equated. Sometimes when I'm firm, a child cries. It doesn't last long when they realize I'm not going to "give in".

Yeah, my kid should be an actur because he can cry over nothing at the drop of a hat. Once he knows I don't care if he cried, he stops. His mom though, she takes every whimper seriously.
