Ok..gone too far but you've put your finger on it..convenience, not quality. Thats what people are after so why bother with all the gear?

Harry Nilsson did a catchy little number concerning the hero and his pet, and possibly other songs; I can't remember. Ringo Starr narrated. (There's some history about that but I'll stop here.)

Anyway: that's What's The Point.
Dude, the thread about pots somewhere else!

mebbe the flaw in your thought is attempting to vector map the lot with one sweeping generalisation.. "that's what people want.." i'll show you stinky steven on the end of the street, all he wants is to wipe boogers on your face.

"..so that's what people are after eh."
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

Landphil: Heh!

BTW, did I actually type 1979?!? It was 1971. I shall gnaw my fingers off in repentance, starting tomorrow.

Who says that's what everybody wants? I know quite a few folks with expensive sound systems who take great joy in wallowing in every nuance and squeek in a recording. I want them to like my records. I know lots of folks whose exposure to music is only through downloadable MP3s. I want them to like my stuff, as well. I work very hard to ensure that my mixes sound good no matter what your listening preference. If you want to compromise your audio by reducing it to the lowest common denominator, that's your business. I, for one, enjoy an excellent recording, and am often put off by a bad one, though an excellent recording of shit is still shit, and a bad recording of a brilliant composition is still brilliant.
There are rocketships outside of my window. Really: www.cosmo.org

128k mp3 is crap. 192k and above is more than adequet, and sounds like a cd to me. and the benifits of higher than 16bit 44k sound are neglible.

So this is about circumcision?
The following statement is true.
The previous statement is false.

I don't know many people who can afford gear like that and I don't think they make up the majority(but thank God for them). I DO NOT WANT TO REDUCE MY WORK TO THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR! Which is why I'm complaining that there's very little going on to promote better formats.

That would have gone without saying.

So how many people are downloading 192k?

Post

Why bother with all the gear? Well, just because MP3 is lossy, doesn't mean that a listener can't tell the difference between Model E and Minimonsta.

And if you're just complaining about MP3 sucking, well, too bad. I guess you must still pissed off about Beta vs. VHS.
