1) Roland MKS-50, found on eBay as some guy had two of them from 1985 when they first came out. One of them had a "bad display unit", so I put a bid on that thinking I could just use a sequencer to edit it. When I got it home, a week of no display working on it was buggin' me, so I opened it up, and what do know? The display wire inside was not plugged into the mainboard properly! Next thing you know, I have a new unit with a display that just started working for the very first time in 1999!
2) Found a Korg DVP-1 in the communal dumpster in front of my complex. So I took it inside, dusted it off, and plugged it in. It turned on, but would not function properly. So I took it to a shop down the street and paid a guy $50 to fix it. Apparently there were not many of these made, and it is still fetching $350+ on eBay!!
I still use both units fairly often...
