So would paying attention to your levels..Midiworks wrote:0db is maximum digital level,
so an output limiter would prevent digital clipping.
Thumbs down on built-in limiter; there's too many other free ones or commercial ones already available that are probably better designed than what you'd come up with as a intergrated component..That and I can't see how it wouldn't color the sound.

Well....
The 0db digital clipping thing is only for A/D conversion. Once a signal is *inside* a host, as long as you're using enough bit depth, you can go significantly higher than 0db without digital distortion.
Where it comes in handy is during mixdown, in preparation for going through a D/A conversion.
So, on second consideration, and since I DO have limiters I'm pleased with already, I change my vote to a 'nah, don't bother' as well.

Err, sorry for asking what is very likely a newb's question, but how would limiting color the sound? All you're doing is turning it down at a certain point, right? My spies inform me that Sicklecell666 wrote: Thumbs down on built-in limiter; there's too many other free ones or commercial ones already available that are probably better designed than what you'd come up with as a intergrated component..That and I can't see how it wouldn't color the sound.

dimitar: why would you use a limiter on your guitar signal? To me, limiters/compressors kills the dynamics that are part of the 'amp sound'.

mondo tormento: that would depend a lot on a few things, though. A limiter or compressor isn't insta-kill unless the gain is boosted to FORCE limiting. If it's just there for rogue peaks, you should still have lots of dynamics.
Also, since driven amps already introduce a very healthy amount of compression, a limiter shouldn't muck up the sound. The heavier the distortion, the more compressed the result will be on a real amp, too. Dynamics with chugga-chugga distortion types, for example, are created with different techniques (different muting methods, for example) rather than with the actual ups and downs in volume (which are rather non-existent).

Great playing and some good guitar sounds too!
Does anyone want to add some ACDC rhytm guitars, I'm curious how that type of playing would sound through Midiworks plugin.

I allready recorded some pattern with my 335 clone (which is coming pretty close to the Guild Malcom Young is playing). Would like to hear that one amplified as well.mondo tormento wrote: Does anyone want to add some ACDC rhytm guitars, I'm curious how that type of playing would sound through Midiworks plugin.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.
