warp night+crappy venue+friday fever= bad night.

the venue was kinda crappy and very unsuited for xperimental sets, fortunately it was 10 minutes on feet from my home. btw, the duo started playing with some good stuff, some beats with some kind of fm percussion being scraped back and forth violently, but the volume was too low (compared to the electro djset before them). after 10 minutes, as I expected, people started getting pissed off. then the thing evolved to a polyrhythmic level, some other scraping and still a volume you could talk over, so I spent some of the night splitting the crowd signal with the set, in my mental mixer.

then, the good italian verve...a general "booing" came up, the duo left, the crappyelectrodj came back for another 30 minutes of unuseful but more coloured music, the uneducated viewers had some friendly stomping back.

again, the duo re-entered and started an heavier set, more polyrhythmics, no time scrapes/zips, some subtle mangling in the background, but still not much volume.
the bad thing is that in the meanwhile the venue became really overcrowded. ok it was friday and the venue usually offers heavydance stuff, but the temperature and the lack of oxygen made this impossible to follow without being naked or totally out of this world, considering also that 3/4 of 'em had no idea on what was happening, or who was playing.
those with an idea where asking why the Duo was at such a powerful and unsubtle set. I admit I haven't got the new untilted cd and never saw them live, but the Draft 7.30 or Confield sound was very distant.
So...after another 30 minutes the oxygen was totally gone, and being still human I felt the need to leave. :x

I even asked myself if they really were Autechre.

Nothing, compared to the Carlsten Nicolai performance (3/4 months before) at the new Auditorium, here. Seats, classical venue, not having the Warp name bringing thousands of twerps, etc.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I saw them at Stealth in the UK a couple of weeks back and it was stunning. Ae are usually pretty cautious about where they play and I think they take their own or hired sound rig to ensure it sounds as impressive as possible but at a really high volume :D. Maybe this isn't the case abroad...

The couple of times I've seen them in the UK, you would never have critisized them for being too quiet, so I can only assume they had some kind of problem with the system. Infact the support DJ's where playing at a much lower volume than the main set but that was still pretty loud - When Ae started you could tell instantly there was a bit extra there, which I guess is to make it sound even more impressive.

Bad gigs do suck and a bad gig of an artist you like sucks bigger balls.
No, that Glitch is meant to be there.....

yeah I walked out of an Orbital gig once cos the sound was so bad. again not a band that you would expect to put up with a shit soundsystem

I've not seen autechre perform though a friend described the volume of their shows as "trouser-flapping" so I guess it wasn't quite what they expected either... it does sound utterly crap from your description - shame

the sound was pretty cool, even if I expected some more abstract stuff & some less beats. the volume was insufficient. I mean, during the djsets, I had to scream to comunicate. during autechre, loud talking was enough to bury. and with hundreds of thrillseeking loudtalkers...

the venue (c.s.o.a. Brancaleone) is crappy but it's known as a good place to kill yourself, the friday nights are pretty loud and ringing.

Maybe I was expecting just too much, and I'm biased blasting the whole for the mess. for 7euros..

oh, can't bet on this one. btw, I've seen a huge black thingie in the flightcase. the infamous Kyma?

they used it in the first part (the first "boo" :hihi: )
