the venue was kinda crappy and very unsuited for xperimental sets, fortunately it was 10 minutes on feet from my home. btw, the duo started playing with some good stuff, some beats with some kind of fm percussion being scraped back and forth violently, but the volume was too low (compared to the electro djset before them). after 10 minutes, as I expected, people started getting pissed off. then the thing evolved to a polyrhythmic level, some other scraping and still a volume you could talk over, so I spent some of the night splitting the crowd signal with the set, in my mental mixer.
then, the good italian verve...a general "booing" came up, the duo left, the crappyelectrodj came back for another 30 minutes of unuseful but more coloured music, the uneducated viewers had some friendly stomping back.
again, the duo re-entered and started an heavier set, more polyrhythmics, no time scrapes/zips, some subtle mangling in the background, but still not much volume.
the bad thing is that in the meanwhile the venue became really overcrowded. ok it was friday and the venue usually offers heavydance stuff, but the temperature and the lack of oxygen made this impossible to follow without being naked or totally out of this world, considering also that 3/4 of 'em had no idea on what was happening, or who was playing.
those with an idea where asking why the Duo was at such a powerful and unsubtle set. I admit I haven't got the new untilted cd and never saw them live, but the Draft 7.30 or Confield sound was very distant.
So...after another 30 minutes the oxygen was totally gone, and being still human I felt the need to leave.
I even asked myself if they really were Autechre.
Nothing, compared to the Carlsten Nicolai performance (3/4 months before) at the new Auditorium, here. Seats, classical venue, not having the Warp name bringing thousands of twerps, etc.
