A noobish EQ display question

Its because our ear's perception of pitch is logarithmic. Using a logarithmic scale for an Eq display therefore makes the image tie in much better with what we actually hear

OK lemme see if I got this straight: the EQ display is logarithmic because we can perceive the difference between a 200Hz and a 700Hz tone more easily than the difference between a 16000Hz and a 16500Hz tone?

Yep exactly. The 200 and 700Hz tones sound like there is a big difference in pitch between them. However, you can only hear a small difference in pitch between the 16000 and 16500Hz tones.
It helps to remember that playing a note an octave higher means doubling its frequency. So if you have a tone at 100Hz, then a tone an octave higher is 200Hz. If however you had a tone at 5000Hz, then an octave higher is at 10000Hz. You can see you need a much bigger change in frequncy to get the same perceived change in pitch

wow, I didn't know that fact (+1 octave pitch = 2x frequency)!
