Can someone possibly tell me how to set up a sidechain compressor in tracktion to "duck" the bass on a kick drum hit?

I would be grateful. :help:

Thank you in advance.

Stick the side chain compressor in a rack like so:

Insert a rack filter onto the kick (key) track, and set it 100% dry, 0% wet, with both inputs feeding the rack's "key" input:

Now insert another on the bass track, and set this 100% wet, 0% dry, with the inputs feeding the audio ins:

now press play, and adjust your compressor settings to get the desired ducking..

FWIW:

when I get back from the UK, I'm going to build a web site devoted to rack examples. I have a bunch already that were kindly donated by platinumears.

Keep an eye out for the announcement on this forum. ;)

Thanks a lot Platinumears. I've only asked a few questions in the 6 or so months I've been coming to this forum but you've been the one to give me the answer everytime. I really appreciate it. :D

Valley, that will be awesome. I'm looking forward to it

Thanks again!

There is one practical way you could thank me, come to think of it:

Vote for number 14!!! :hyper:

is that cheating? :hihi:

of course, you should audition them all carefully..

.. and then vote for number 14! :D

Plat, which Sidechainer are you using? Does this apply the same way to MIDI drums? I am using BFD and when I put in an instance of the rack in the kick channel, I don't see an option for key input, it just says input 1 and input 2 and output 1 and out put 2. I have Waves C1 Sidechain comp, and also the slim slow slider one.

Warning! Nubie question here....

What exactly is "ducking"?

I'm refering to the Mackie / Acuma compressors which come with the T2 demo.. I've not used either of the ones you mention, but I'm guessing they use a different method of routing the side-chain signal, designed for 'cubase sucks' hosts that don't allow modular routing..

Ducking refers to the gain reduction applied by a compressor that is keyed from another signal. eg: a radio presenter's mic will feed the side-chain of a compressor which is used to duck the music whenever he starts talking..

ok, good call. I dloaded T2 demo and had it loaded, butI bought T1. I wonder if I can find those plugs anywhere on my disc w/out uninstalling t1 for them?

I think some people really may not appreciate the sidechain yet. It is a plug that many users of other sequencers are dying for. the fact that we can sidechain comp in t2 is worth SO MUCH.

not sure i follow you..? if you add the plugins directory from your T2 installation to the relevant page in T1 (and re-scan) you should be able to use the compressors with no restrictions..
