Click to the left of the track to highlight it, and then see what you have selected as the audio output in the 'inspector' area (whatever that is called?) at the bottom of the screen. Also make sure your card is set up on the Settings tab.

Do you hear it when recording?

if you say upgrading is far away then i'd have to say that you recording anything semi-decent is far away as well. you get what you pay for.

you assume i don't know that, talk about stating the obvious. I already have a nice setup running an RME 9632, i just want another computer for home. i.e. away from our rehearsal room.

this is the sort of thing i hate about forums. If you can't answer the particular question posted why do you bother to reply to it at all.

by the by i have recorded some f^&#@(n great stuff of great quality on this particular soundcard, so nuts to you. :x

Don't mind Ron  . He's always ticking people off. His comments by no means represent the general atmosphere in this group. Sorry I can't comment on your origional question about your soundblaster card. Welcome to the forum! :D

Don't pay any attention to Ron, he's the resident troll.. obviously one of his bad days.

Did Braj's suggestion help at all?

It may not help your current problem, but have you tried the KX Project drivers yet? They worked well with my old SBLive platinum (long retired now!) far better for music making than the default Creative ones..

O.T

i wonder if we will ever ket KX drivers for my emu 1820m?

Oh & welcome :)

& dont let Ron upset you ;)

Maybe the WAV-channel on your Surround Mixer is muted?

I have a SB Live card too (upgrade pending hopefully) - it does work fine though just bloody noisy and poor latency. Anyway what do you have set as your default audio device in the outputs on the settings tab ?

Post

Do you have some other software you can try it with, in case it's the card? I had a SB Live once with the same problem. Turned out one of the line-outs had cacked itself. Took me ages to work out what was wrong.

Just read about the KX drivers - and installed them - my 'hard drive noise' problem is gone :-)

I used to use an sb live ages ago - the kx drivers were a godsend.
There used to be a project which hacked the emu aps drivers for use with a soundblaster also - but it wouldn't work on xp - aps were 98 only.
there are now xp drivers for aps though - so maybe that project will be revived (dunno the webpage - long time ago), as in emu aps mode the humble sb was much sweeter.

When I was using an SB Live, I also got a lot of love from the kx drivers. If they're pissing you off, though, you can also give the ASIO4ALL drivers a go.
