Voxengo, Kjaerhus and other devs - Help me get rid of Waves

O.K. I bought the waves Diamond Bundle from a mate who wanted the $$ to buy UAD and TC for around $700 but even though it's about a $3100 (i think) saving, it still feels that it's $700 too much. The reason ? I use mainly Logic 5.5.1 PC and Samplitude for mixing and cannot touch Cubase or Nuendo. Waves, even though quite willing to charge $3800 for it as a "PRO" product, still seem incompetent to write a decent wrapper for VST that works outside of Steinberg hosts. That is one of my concerns as I can't get any automation working.
My main gripe though is that from the 40 or so plugins included the only ones i actually use ,in lack of a replacement, are Doubler, MaxxBass, SuperTap, S1 (for better stereo panning than just the pan on my host) and finally occasionaly X-hum,xnoise,xclick,xcrackle and transient x.
MaxxBass shouldn't really be really hard to code. I already can use a chain of comp,eq, enhancer to do the same but would love an all in one solution. As for Stap i'm sure there must be a replacement but i haven't found it, so any suggestions are welcome. S1 shouldn't really be hard to code either, especially with the latest trend of devs extreme interest in stereo widening and the such.
Isn't about time we got rid of them for good ? Help me Alekssey, Torben, U-he and all you tallented coders who are near your userbase.

Try out the Voxengo LFPunch bass plug (currently in progress - demo available) it might suit you. I haven't tried the Waves MaxxBass - I've used other bass balancing type tools. I like it so far and will purchase:

PSP mix suite combined with voxengo curveeq and a compressor - maybe crunchessor, or any of several other comps - for me personally - is far better than MaxBass. I know it's sort of an all in one type tool - but I find that it does not do the job most of the time and requires other plugs to compensate anyway.
At this point IMHO Waves is no longer the leading edge for anything - except the X-noise stuff maybe ....

Tracks! I love the tracks limiter much more than PSP vintage warmer.

as a replacement for supertap: try fx-designer by spinaudio. it's part of the essental bundle which gives you also an eq (ok), a delay (nice) and roomverb m1 (the best native reverb out there, except from its big brother roomverb m2). I thinks the bundle is around 100 USD.
to replace maxxbass: get the free baxxpander from elogoxa or/and phat pro from delaydots and/or voxengo lfpunch.
maybe try voxengo soniformer to replace s1 (which is not only a high class multi-band mastering compressor but also a stereo-widening tool). for audio restoration: get adobe audition, it's my favourite wave editor and has excellent restorations features. (I do not like redunoise from voxengo, which some people praise, since I was able to figure out how it works). for transient modelling: get dominion (free) and also transmodder from voxengo.
this is just what I suggest. try the demos!

I agree, but if I already had that Waves Diamond bundle I'd change hosts before I got rid of it -- especially at that price.greendoor wrote:Voxengo and Kjaerhus have already removed any need to consider Waves.

Waves are nothing primarily. I think even the function call for DX in the .dll wraps some other routines. All formats are wrapped. Why not use DX. AUTOMATION.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still amazed by how so little tap delays are out there. As for de-noising i own Audition and have access to Samplitude. Samps are on par with Auditions (except for frequency editing which is superb) but both are under the waves ones. Still these don't get much use so they are only a minor niggle.
I have owned PSP Mixpack at some point and sorry, after being spoiled by voxengo, i think it could sound better. Just an IMHO here. VW is kinda sweet but the AM-Suite sounds better in my ears, and it has something like Dominion v2 which could, almost replace Trans-X. If you have any more keep em coming. Maybe i'll just sucker a friend, sell it for $900 and get the UAD Ultra Pak
.
@...xander : Even if i had paid the full $4000 i would consider letting the whole package get covered in dust while not using it more of an option than using Cubase
