Hi Beno – a few questions for you if I may...

I have a Mackie HDR in my main studio. I use Tracktion on my Dell PC Laptop, and have a Firedock external drive bay with which I can connect my HDR's external drives to the Laptop via USB2. I have the T2 demo and tried out the 'import mackie .prj file' feature.

All I can say is WoW!! - I’m really really crazy looking forward to T2!!!
But it did get me wondering about a few things…

1) What is the best way to make two mono tracks on the HDR that are really meant as a stereo pair, come up as one stereo track on Tracktion?

2) Is it possible to import (and later) export individual tracks as mono? How does T2 deal with mono audio?

3) Will there be better performance of Tracktion's ability to playback audio tracks if they are on kept on an external 7200rpm drive connected via USB2 instead of a laptop’s drive? Additional latency?

4) Do HDR audio regions that contain volume ramps at the top or come up without them in Tracktion? Is this also the case with cross fades and volume envelope edits? Will ‘true’ transfer of HDR regions with their editing intact be offered in a later Tracktion release?

5) If I ‘import an HDR project file’ direct from my removable HDR drive, and then edit and/or delete the audio from within Tracktion, and then save the Tracktion file, what happens to the original audio files on the HDR?

6) I also noticed that if I have virtual tracks under my main tracks on a HDR project, they appear on top of each other all on one track when imported into Tracktion. Will there be a T update in the future to remedy this?

7) Would it be at all worth considering in a future T release to have a specific HDR/MDR/SDR editing program mode so people like myself could take our work home with us for editing and updating .prj files on a computer with an external dock without lugging our H/M/SDR's home also?

I realize that’s alotta questions… I’ll stop now.
Really amazed with this program-!

Just wanted to reply quickly that I see this post and will respond shortly. I don't have time right now though.
Thanks,

I'll fill in what I can..

1. pan the mono tracks hard L & R, and either route them to another track (which will become a stereo sub-group) or render them to a new stereo file.

2. Yes. Mono audio clips act just like stereo ones, and can be positioned on the same tracks.

3. Probably yes. Latency should not be affected at all (this is determined by soundcard drivers) the only difference will be the number of tracks you can play / record simultaneously.

4. Don't know. Beno?

5. T's clip editing is non-destructive, so your original files are left intact.

6.

7. Not sure what you mean.. (maybe because I've never used a HDR)

Thanks Platinum ears for helping out. I'm really busy lately studying for exams and don't have much time to reply.

4. No. The fades and volume envelopes are not currently supported. We do plan for this in the future but I have no firm time frame on when that will occur. For now, render any fades, volume changes that you really need on the HDR first.

6. Yeah that's a bug and should hopefully be sorted before too long. Again for now, save your a copy of your HDR project file and remove all virtual tracks first to avoid this.

7. This has been asked for before which is why we added this support to Tracktion. If you have a removable drive bay on your computer to accept HDR drives, you can edit the projects directly on your M90 with tracktion. In the future, HDR export should be added to tracktion so you can get things back to your HDR much easier. Again not sure when that will be but it is on the (long) list.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Platinum & Ben -

This is helpful for my understanding. Mutch appreciated.

Ben - Definitely keep Tracktion->HDR Editing and Transfer possibilities on the burner for a future release. Every HDR/SDR/MDR owner out there in the world will definitely want a copy when they realize what it can do for them 8)
