MIDI import refused?

I'm a would-be refugee from Digital Performer (I've used it for a decade, but have no $150 use for new features in 4.5 and 4.12 won't work with Tiger!). I'm trying the T2 demo to see whether Tracktion is the ship to jump to. But when I export the MIDI from a DP project to an SMF file, Tracktion won't load it -- says the format isn't recognized? (It's SMF format 1, separate tracks.) Is this a demo item? a bug? a stupidity in how I'm trying to do it (most likely)?

MIDI files can be awkward bastards sometimes.
Do your SMF's import ok into other sequencers, or play in a media player?
Have you tried type0 files instead? (Tracktion will explode type0 files by MIDI channel..)

Welcome - I'm a former DP user for whom T has been an absolute godsend. I have the same problem. I had to open the MIDI files in another program (Logic Express demo!) and resave them before T could see them.

It is something specific to DP - I have had occasional difficulty getting MIDI from DP into other DAWs as well. As a workaraound try opeining it in a third program and re-saving.

Well, trust MOTU; this answer has the ring of truth. That looks like something of a problem, when applied to ~500 files. Anyone know of a freeware program that might _batch_-process SMFs?

No. The only thing I can think of is MIDIscale which I use to add SysEx to ringtones.. I've never tried the batch options, but perhaps if you set it to remove SP-MIDI data it will do what you want..? There's a free non-commercial version in which the batch-processing is 'restricted' in some (unspecified) manner.cohartman wrote: Anyone know of a freeware program that might _batch_-process SMFs?
I suspect it might be PC only however.
