Well I am an NFR user and even though I got the e-mail I did not expect to be able to upgrade form free software!
What I do not really like is the fact that in order to have T2 I have to purchase a physical box and a bundled version. I could do without both. :lol:
I still want T2 and as soon as I sort out my soundcard buying decisition I will try and find a local (European) dealer and buy it as an auto birthday present :D
Meanwhile I will finish the 2 projects I have laying around in T1.
Congrats to those who got such a great deal for the upgrade. I should have purchased T1 back in 2003 when I was thinking about it :wink:
Later;

Where would that be? If you mean the folder where T2 is then yes.
M'Snah........(aka HansM) wrote:And install the full version?
Still the demo, but the one with full examples etc... I've seen the other compressors mentioned earlier while there only was the demo.

VST plugs should go into /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/ (empty) if shared by all users on the computer or ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/ if for me only. The only thing there is the Final mix demo for T that I put there long ago...

After I installed Tracktion 2 I had to manually add /Program Files/Tracktion2/plugins to the plugin directories at the setup page. (btw I'm talking WinXP here)
I didn't get them listed right away, but after adding the directory and doing a rescan I can see them. (and probably you can move this plugins directory to another location of your choice.)

Germ quoth Well I am an NFR user and even though I got the e-mail I did not expect to be able to upgrade form free software!

Well, it had been intimated that NFR owners might get a small discount, so I was quite chuffed when I got the email. And rather disappointed when there turned out to be no upgrade as a result. Not horrified, but it had sounded like there was something good, y'know.

Well, yeah. I already have more than enough plugins, including the full version of a few of those bundled, or more-than-adequate alternatives, so I agree there.

However, Tracktion is really a 'second' host for me, so its no biggie. Just got my hopes up a bit, thats all.

Never mind, I got a Nord MicroModular yes'day (ta yet again Rozzer), my Evolver turned up today, and Im going to see the Rezillos tonight, so everythings groovy, really...

One option would be to have the option to upgrade from NFR versions to the T2 on-line version for something like the original price of T1. That is just wishful thinking and Mackie has all the right to plan their marketing any way they choose in order to not go into debt and whatnot.
I think that an un-bundled T2 version for 50 to 80 $ would be nice (and affordable for me right now :hihi: )
T1 is a second host for me too, but I am starting to use it more and more. I am a devoted Fl user, butI like T1 for audio work :love:
Congrats for the concert. I have to work from 10 pm until 6 am and then will do clean up and maintenance at the factory until 2 pm. 16 hr working shift :x :x :x
I don`t get paid enough for this kind of crap :help:

Well I decided to do the $20 online upgrade. The plugin bundle looked good, but I already have quite a few of these plugins. The remaining ones would be well worth it if they weren't keyed to Tracktion, but since I suspect that they are, and because I do quite a lot of work outside of Tracktion still, I decided to forgo them. I'm happy! :)

they indeed are locked to Tracktion. There's no doubt possible here as Beno has already clearly answered that question about two months ago. ;-)

Must admit that I had no intention of upgrading to v2 as I don't use T1...but at $20 it would be stupid not to...who knows what may be included in the 2.xx versions that may make me change my mind and start using it? :)

I sure as hell am going to upgrade. My difficulties are mostly user-related so .........swish goes the card.

I would have liked to see a break for the NFR folks, too, on an unbundled version. I'm happy enough with the rebate, assuming I can come up with the cash to get it in time to use it...and I don't mind having the plugs either, but I have to say that I'd probably move faster to get T2 if I had the option to buy only T2 at a good price. Now, I have to weigh it against the upgrade option I have for Ableton Live 4... :shrug:

I know it'd be sweet, but I don't see that as making sense. I am speaking too soon here, and don't have all the information, so nothing I say is definitive; however, this is how I see it based on current information:

- Mackie/RMS want this to be a retail product, like Cubase, Sonar, et al. That means a box and a physical product. Some people have argued very persuasively (ie. I DO see their point) that a download-only version would be cool. But that doesn't seem to be in the cards. It might be a matter for debate in another thread (in fact, it HAS been debated) but as a premise in THIS thread, my first assumption is that Mackie/RMS want to move to retail box product only.

- However, the catch-22 was that there are existing T1 users that Mackie/RMS did not want to screw. Therefore, they've offered them this very attractive upgrade option. Frankly, I think the generousity is staggering. This way, existing T1 purchasers of ALL persuasions are being accomodated and nobody's being left behind.

- The NFR version was *strictly* a promotional offer. It was meant to expose people to Tracktion and get people interested. This is marketing, which means that they were not giving it away with merely benevolence, though it was still generous and had no strings attached. However, the end goal was to try to get Tracktion out there and hopefully find a few potential T2 buyers as well.

- Since the NFR offer theoretically "took money away" from possible T1 purchases, it HAS to be seen as an investment. The investment is that enough people will get interested in Tracktion that they will recoup their losses on T2 sales. Giving NFR owners a special download package and price to reward their loyalty doesn't make sense, because there's no loyalty to reward. You may have become fans, and it's awesome to see the community grow because of it, but you didn't make the purchase. ;)

- Not every NFR owner will visit this forum or see all the threads, and that's unfortunate but that's life. For the ones that DO visit here, they would have been told time and time and time again that buying T1 will get them a nice upgrade path. Now it's been proven. If an NFR person chose NOT to buy T1 because they don't like taking such risks, I understand; however, they had all the information available to them, and Mackie/RMS have lived up to their promise of a nice upgrade path. The end result is that an NFR-turned-T1 customer's loyalty IS being rewarded, which makes sense.

<takes deep breath>

In other words-- take the $30 coupon and run. That's plenty of reward for taking the opportunity to join in the Tracktion community and share your experiences with everyone. It's a nice way of saying, "Hey, thanks for coming along for the ride!" but anything above and beyond that is an unfair expectation to have.
