Annoying hum in T1

It seems the more I use T1 the more irritating little problems are coming to light. This time some of the reverbs I use are now causing a hum, where they didn't a week ago. In particular Ambience and SIR now create so much noise in T that I have to set up a zero volume envelope around each clip that uses one of these. I've tried the same audio clips with the same reverbs on the same settings in Sonar 2.2 and there's no noise at all. I haven't changed anything or had any crashes in the past week.

And I'm still having problems with plugins jumping out of presets that I've specified to some default that I never chose. I know the workaround, thanks to forum help, but can't see any way to prevent it happening in the first place.
I really want to stick with T but I've got a large composition on the go for a community event in August and this flakiness is worrying me.

Can anyone help with these problems?

XP Home SP1, Athlon XP2000+, IGb RAM, Terratec Phase22.

are you monitoring input through the reverbs? uncheck e-to-e (end to end) or disconnect your inputs if this is the problem.

Can you describe the noise in more detail? I use Ambience now and again, and SIR all the time: I never had any 'noise' problems.. :?

Post

Are you using Senderella to send tracks to Ambience and SIR? Sometimes when you disable a Send instance of Senderella before the reverb has finished, the 'tail' of the reverb loops continually until the Send instance is enabled again or simply removed.

Also, look in the Settings page under Audio/MIDI and see whether any audio device inputs have become active that shouldn't be.

Like platinumears, I use those plugins and have never had any problems with them like you described. Hopefully it's something that can be easily fixed on your setup with a bit more information.

- At what point does it happen? From the moment you insert an Ambience effect?
- Are you using it in a Rack? As an Insert?
- Can this noise be rendered out? (can we hear it?)

Tracktion records annoying humming as well as any software I know, but I don't think that's a very nice thing to say about your lead vocalist.

Thanks again all, for your helpful responses. Semiquaver, I'm not monitoring through the reverbs, but I'll try switching off e-e anyway and see what happens.
Platinumears, the noise usually sounds like electrical hum you sometimes get if a loudspeaker cable is crossed over a power cable. BUT...Ceenda, I'm not using Senderella (although it's on my plugin list - I might try deleting it from my system) but your description of a reverb tail looping is exactly what it sometimes sounds like, especially with SIR. It occurs as soon as I open an edit which contains either of these plugins. They're not in a rack - just a standard plugin insert.
I'll see if I can capture the sound next time I fire up T, sometime tomorrow.
You've all given me some things to try, thanks. I'll get back.
And hey, at $20 for the upgrade, I can stand a little inconvenience!
Cheers, guys.

There might be something wrong with the edit. it might be corrupted somehow, or there may be some routing problems, or a vst that is acting up.

Try the reverbs in a different edit.

Go back to an earlier version of the music you are working on and see if the problem exists there.

Try to isolate the problem.

Put one of the suspect reverbs into a copy of another song. I suggest a copy so you don't risk screwing up a good edit. See if you have any problems.

I tend to doubt that the problem is Tracktion or the reverb. I think it is a problem edit, or a problem within the edit.

Hmmm. I've paid over my $20 and loaded the edit into T2 and it works just fine, no noise at all. I then opened it up again in T1 and the noise is still there. I've also noticed that if I disable SIR the noise sounds like ordinary electrical interference hum, as I described in response to Plats. When I re-enable it, the noise is like a reverb tail looping.
I guess it doesn't matter now that it's working well in T2, but I'll still play around with it just out of curiosity. It may be a corrupted edit, as you suggest PT.
If I find anything interesting I'll post back.
Thanks again, guys.
Speaking of which, where are all the women on this forum? Is that worth a new post? Why aren't we attracting women to our discussions?

Try exporting the edit as an archive, and re-importing it to another project..? Interesting that its only in T1..
