Ok this thread was suggested in another thread and it kind of makes sense so here I go.
Congratulations to Jules for a wonderful application and to Mackie for being so benign on behalf of the old Tracktioneers at offering the T1 to T2 upgrade for such a ridiculously low amount of money.
The program itself is worth much more than it has been asked for since it inception and that is thanks to Jules desire to share his wonderful creation with the rest of us musicians/producers that ,just like him, were being frustrated with the way traditional sequencers work.
Seeing the state of affairs and the way things have turned out for the Tracktion 2 update and the way it has related to us NFR users of T1 I am formally recollecting opinions and ideas on the subject of allowing us to upgrade to T2 for a fee that would be equal to T1 purchase price plus the upgrade from T1 to T2 price.
That is. NFR users could upgrade to T2 for 80$ (T1 price) + 20$ (price of upgrade from T1 to T2) = 100$
This upgrade would be to the un-bundled version with no rebate towards the boxed one neither inside nor outside of the USA.
This to me seems like a fair deal and would allow Mackie a margin of extra fast income since they did not expect to give us the upgrade (rightfully so I might say on their behalf as No one could really expect an upgrade in an application they got for free like I did) and now would give us the oportunity to have the fully registered version for a decent price.
Those wanting the full boxed version can wait a while and save the extra 50 or so $ (shipping and handling) to purchase it and support their local or closer Mackie dealer.
So. Who else thinks this is a fair offer and would take it from Mackie.
Mackie reps. Would this have any possibility to go thru and allow us to upgrade? I have my credit card in hand just in case.
Post your ideas and lets hope we get something achieved with it.
Thanks for your time;
T2 waiting Germ :D

The way Mackie put it when the offer was handed it sounded as if there was no need to pay for it.
Would you pay for something you already had?
Also. If you have no interest/anything good to say about this. Would you keep away from posting here. I just don`t want to start a discussion in this thread.
Thanks

No :P

You got far more than you deserve already (ie; a completely unrestricted copy of T1)

If you had a tiny bit of sense you might have realised that T1 owners would get a better upgrade deal than NFR freeloaders.. even without the clues we have been given on this forum.

If you had a bit more sense, you might have chosen to support the developer of this amazing package by paying his (very modest) asking price even though it wouldn't actually un-lock any features in the short term, but to encourage development and show support..

Even if you are 'forced' to buy the boxed version, you are still getting an amazingly good deal. Now stop bitching, and go and make some music. :D

Platinumears; why not just shut up and let them gather their names. If it doesnt work for them, it doesnt work, but at least they did something more than whine. What frigging difference does it make to you, really?

I agree with that. In any transaction, there are what you give and what you get for.

I paid my 80$ as an early tracktion user. It wouldn't be fair if a guy who got it for free would get the same upgrade price.

C'mon, don't be blind and don't be angry because you missed it.

However, I am very surprised that the users who got their tracktion through a bundle are not able to upgrade.

Looks like you're willin to pay 80$ for T1 now aren't you?

What a foolish request. Why would mackie bother selling it at 150$ at all if they wanted to charge everyone on earth 100$?

Just go buy it in the store with all the shiny free plugins and be happy it's way less than any other sequencer out there with the capabilities it has.

I wouldn't doubt it mackie put up a 100$ download only version with no plugins though.

Post

platinumears - yes i've got T1 for free, nice little mastering tool for me probably (sans the rendering problem).
I won't buy the box - as it has plugs i don't need, but i would buy an online T2, although I wouldn't be using the new features (as it's only going to be my mastering tool - using wavs from live, possibly rewiring live in).
So i'm willing to pay the $100, i'd like to pay it to show my appreciation - but a boxed version with stuff in it i'll never use?
Nah - couldn't justify it.
So you see i actually want to pay - but i didn't want to pay for T1 license as mackie were keeping so close-mouthed about downloadable versions etc. (I don't really do a lot of things on blind faith - judging by your signature you may understand that attitude  ).
So if mackie don't want my money - that's cool, im willing but not able.
Bugger it.

Same amount of difference it makes to you if I post in this thread. ;)

fwiw, Mackie are distributing Tracktion: afaik Jules is not a Mackie employee, and may still derive his income directly from Tracktion sales.. in which case the NewbieFReeloaders have probably cost him real money.

I think they should be made to wait with all the other plebs who heard about it in the CM review..

Post

Good God - some of you guys are being really snotty about this. Would you be this whiny if Mackie had offered this already?

In which case, direct sales of an unboxed, downloadable product at $100 are possiblyy likely to generate more income for him than a boxed item at $200 after the retailers cut, the distributors cut, and the costs of packaging et.c.

in which case the NewbieFReeloaders have probably cost him real money.

If Mackie and Jules decided that this was a worthwhile method of promotion, then it was their choice. Your claim that those who partook in this promotion, (which he undoubtedly agreed to), has cost him personally, is an absolute nonsense.
The decision to make the offer was a marketing one, and those who made it are responsible for the existence of any 'costs', not those who took Mackie, and Jules, up on it.

It makes a difference to me that someone is calling me a newbie and a freeloader and a pleb because I took part in a generous promotion. Makes me think you're being an insulting arsehole for no apparant reason.
