VSTi loop recording

Hi, I like the audio loop recording in T2 and funnily enough the resizable window makes a huge difference when working with rewire instruments. However most of my recording is with virtual instruments. How do I loop record and have multiple takes for a VSTi per track as with audio recording? If I go into loop record it just accumulates all of the midi data onto the same take.

Click on the midi input and choose "overlap..." as the Action for the midi input. This will create separate clips as you record midi. But note that during loop record it won't make a cool loop clip as it does for audio. You'll just end up with separate midi clips.

Thanks Beno. But does it also play back the original clips. e.g. On take 2 will it also play back take 1?

Beno, this is a waste of time because you can still hear the previous loops as you record. What people want is a midi loop that behaves the same as an audio loop record.

As I record most virtual instruments in real time the option to mute previous takes is essential. Sometimes when looping a take you really find the groove after a couple of attempts but that would be very difficult with the previous loops playing.

Well I agree that a midi loop tool that works the same as the audio loop tool is a good idea, I don't agree with your statement that "it is a waste of time because you can still hear the previous loops as you record". Quite often you may want to hear this. If you are creating a percussion beat one instrument at a time, you want to hear what you have laid down the previous pass. But I see your point and I have already added a feature request to have a midi loop recording option similar to audio loop recording.

Thanks,

Ben

Many thanks Ben. It really will be a great help for those of us recording real time. I hate quantising and editing midi notes as it sometimes seems to kill the feel, plus it takes up valuable time. I'm one of those luddites who tend to use software as an extended tape multitrack. However the whole point of using software is for added functionality and I remember having to stop while the tape op/engineer found the locate points to record another take.
Thanks again for a great product.

overlaying & loop recording midi doesn't actually work at all theough does it?
I posted some fairly long posts about this a while back.
overlaying & looping just keeps on merging the notes into the original midi clip.
In fact (concerning midi)looping/punch in & all overlay/replace etc. all seems to be in some manner 'broken' or at least function in a rather strange manner, did none of what i wrote ever make it as far as a bug report?

i was quite tired when i originally posted this, so it's a confused read - probably because i kept finding more inconsistencies the harder i looked, but i can't be bothered repeating it all again.
by the way any news on a sticky for bug reports?
