Just wondering if 64 bit mixing should be disabled on my 500mhz recording laptop :)

I know, shut up. I'll upgrade the laptop eventually but for now id like to know if it would make a difference.

You could: Take one of your songs, mix it in 64 bit, and monitor the CPU load while playing/rendering it. Then switch to 32 bit and monitor the CPU load again. (Even though it's supposed to use more CPU, you can get a feeling for the effect this way).
Next step: Listen to both mixes (rendered to wav or 16bit mp3 ;)) on your best audio monitoring setup, and try to hear the difference. And then decide if the difference that you hear is actually worth the observed additional CPU load. :D

But is it any use to enable the 64-bit option during tracking?? I thought it was more of a mixing tool. I don't have the most powerful machine either but I figured I could turn on 64-bit just before I rendered (if the rendering has been improved in T2, that is....)

While recording? No point at all. The mixing quality doesn't affect the recorded files destructively.

Why on earth would the speed of your computer have anything to do with the quality of your recording?

The Quanity and latency for sure, but the quality?

I think 64 bit decreases mixdown distortion so if you are listening closely to the mix while recording, I guess it might be important, but it is affecting the summing master bus, not the tracks, so you can switch back and forth.

From my experience, the mix engine affects CPU much less than plugins and soft synths, though it may be more significant if you use tons of tracks.
