those sounds come dry and the reverb is in the plugin so it's user adjustable.

Garritan mentioned that he would do a Group buy within the next few days. You could get GPO for maybe down to $150 or $125. And that would include a whole orchestra. Surely that's worth paying an extra $50 for.

Thats excellent News! I look in the GPO seriously now!

Check out the demos on their site. They sound very good.
It seems some pros are using it and it has been used for some television shows in the US.
GPO lists at $249 on www.garritan.com and when GPO Lite comes out, it will be $149 - but it's not out yet.

I was trying out the SJ soundfont in detail. For the kind of music I am going to engineer, the 'Strings' patch was very apt (even though Strings2 sounds a lot better).

However, With the 'Strings' patch, there seems to be excessive pitching artifacts in the higher octaves... not too many samples I presume.

just to give an idea of what im looking at.

The GPO group buy is on now, but they are asking for too much time...

i use both the symphony strings from sonic reality and GPO. different sounds. i would (and do) use symphony strings only for pop-ish/electronic stuff, but not to fool anyone into thinking they were hearing a recording. as an experiment, i mixed them with actual recorded string players and got a nice effect. however, GPO is good. it has a few limitations, but the ensemble stuff is excellent. bit of a learning curve to get it to sound just right, but articulate and convincing. what exactly are you working on?

http://www.mi7libraries.com/main/sample ... mit=Search has downloadable versions of the instruments which actually cost a lot more together than the full cd (which is about 100 euros) but if you pick just the patches you need and in the format you need then you can get by much cheaper.

hope this helps.
i second that. the session strings are a secret tool .....I can highly recommend em!

example: you can download for only 2.50 bucks 70 (!) mb of excellent pp violins:

While the MI librasries seem very promising, i dont see any sound demos available ? Any idea where I get some ?

Assuming you have a sampler capable of importing AKAI CDs, look around for copies of Volume 1 of the venerable Advanced Orchestra set. It lists for around $160, but it's heavily discounted here and there. It's just the string sections part of a 5 volume set (solo strings are Volume 2), but if all you want is sting sections, it's more complete and, in my opinion, more musical than GPO.

cant locate the venerable Advanced Orchestra. One more thing. I think i seriouly might need to constrain myself to downloadable libraries...

I didn't see what sampler you were using, but I think a lot of samplers can play sound fonts. I think the soundFont.com strings look interesting. The program list is extensive, but I can't tell a lot from the demo. I wonder if it's the strings from the old orchestral proteus? Anyway, $40.00 is less than $100.00.

This topic interests me a lot. Does anybody out there use this or the Sonic Implants sound fonts?
