first I tried guitar center, they don't even have it in there system, then tried sam ash...they had it in stock! for anyone interested, slayer is killer! mostly for rock/hard rock, but it is an awesome program that by itself costs $90. for those looking for a guitar vsti to play on your keyboard, this is it!
sampletank comes with the basic instruments, they obviously want you to upgrade or buy more of their sample libraries...i certainly don't mind having it. haven't tried amplitube, but I hear great things about it.
rmiv looks pretty cool. i use bfd which is amazing, but it's nice to have rmiv for electronic sounds and other percussion.
anyway, sam ash...$150, minus any rebate you got for owning tacktion 1. great deal. slayer alone is worth the boxed version, the other plugs make this a monster deal.

Finally, I'm not the only one to have this! I am posting my review tonight on the boxed version. It's nice, eh?

Also, if you can find the loops that were supposed to be included, which it mentions with the Sampletank 2SE part of the Mackie site, please let me know! I can't find them.

i didn't see any loops either, just a folder with all the instruments. doesn't matter to me since I don't use loops, but if you do, I can see how that would be frustrating, since the box says it includes loops. let me know if you have any luck.
oh, i forgot to mention, slayer has some very useable bass presets, in addition to all the guitars.

is it a light version of sampletank (which I own) or a light version of sampletank 2?

It's a light version of Sampletank 2. It's the SE version, so you can only use the included sounds, but the ones that are included are rather nice.
And I don't really use loops, but it's nice to have some good ones to throw around sometimes.

are the extra plugs in the boxed set locked (tied to T2)?
thanks for your help.

Yes, you can only use them in T2. But if that's your host, you most likely won't need them elsewhere. The ones that are freeware can obviously be used elsewhere.
