braj wrote:Yeah, it's actually OK for me now, as long as I use Live. Any audio I record in T is fine, and loops play nicer in Live anyway  I'm happy. If you don't work with wav files much, I say upgrade. 10.4 is really nice.
I really want to because I'm still on Jaguar; I passed on Panther alltogether :?

I work mainly with aiff files but, of course, use wav files as we all do; especially in samples.

I wouldn't think it'd take long for Jules to sus this one out :D

Hello Guys,
I was wondering if any more has been discovered about this matter. I'm still holding off installing Tiger :?

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking that the problem is probably the new OS.

I know Jules is working on it. I'm not sure that it's a 'problem' with the new OS, more that T is dealing with a change in the OS that causes this specific issue.

Ok Braj thanks for the update.

I have an external drive with a backup of my system; I can always revert to that if trouble strikes.

Thanks again

Hi Steve,

I think I'm seeing what you are seeing in a way. This using T1. I asked about it in this thread:

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86349

Check out the screen caps... are you seeing that? I now have around 10 active projects and am starting to get file read errors on some clips... seemingly randomly. I can re-import them, making a "local copy", but it's starting to become a real issue.

I looked in the T .plists/settings etc. to see if maybe some paths were getting screwed up, but they all point to my local *non-networked* hard drive. I installed Tiger with "Archive and Install" and migrated all my users settings from there.

Curiouser and curiouser... hopefully Ben/Jules find a fix.

i'm having the same problem. the only thing i've found that seems to fix the problem is converting .wav files into .aif (and then manually re-associating each clip in the project). same thing with t1 or t2. it also seems to mangle the files so tracktion can't read them anymore (they do open fine in sx, however). this is in 10.4.0.

Hmm..
I think Tiger can wait. If it aint broke........

Is this only for transferred accounts?

I've got a completely clean Tiger install at home, and a fresh boxed copy of T2 here at work. I'll try it out.

Is this only for old projects with .wav files, or does this affect new projects and new .wav files as well? Apparently .aiff files are fine?

For the Live workaround, what format are you saving the file to?

I've got a buddy coming down from Boston to record some stuff for an album and the last thing I want to do is deal with problems like this. It sounds like I can avoid it completely by working with .aiff files, at least.

I believe it's only WAV files imported into T. Anything created in T is fine (any Live content rendered in T works).

For me that's not true. This "bug" is effecting projects where I have no imported audio at all. I will still get the "preparing to play compressed or networked files" screen and occasionally, apparently randomly, will get a clip that is no longer able to be read by T2 without having to do an actual clip import... of the same clip it could previously read, but all of a sudden couldn't.

Another thing I'm trying to figure out (noob here) is that despite all this talk of wavs all my project files have always had .aiff extensions and sure seem to be actual aiff files. I have yet to see any instance of a wav file anywhere with T2.

I installed T2 yesterday. Now I find the same as all here. My projects created by importing Mackie SDR 24/96 projects (24/44.1 wav) are all non functional... All of them... THEN I searched for 10.4 here and found this thread... I've got work to do in T. The wait for T2 was not exactly a confidence builder... Can we expect a fix soon? Will this take as long as waiting for Final Mix Mac or perhaps as long as T2 itself...

Will going back to T1 make a difference?

The error exists for T1 as well, it was introduced by changes in 10.4, not in Tracktion.

Oh boy, so what do I do now...? (other than cancel the download of T1...) This is my mixer. The only mixer I use...

You just paid the early-adopter tax. Do you have a free partition you can install another instance of 10.3 on?

I'm guessing this will be fixed soon, based of Beno's feedback. Jules is working on it.

Early...? This is terribly late by my standards...

Workaround, DSP Quattro to the resque:
1) batch convert all wav to aiff (lossless operation)
2) for every clip: reassign file from the Mackie wav to the corresponding aiff
not very presto, but a whole lot easier than going back to 10.3 ... simply no option to me i require that software works on the latest OS. Others can.
