Hi guys,

Can you change the screen resolution? I found myself a touchscreen monitor, but it only goes up to 800X600, and I can't see the whole GUI without changing the resolution.

Also, is there some way of installing a serial to USB connector? On my PC, you put the connector into a USB port and it installs it automatically. The reason I need it is that this monitor has a serial port for the touchscreen capabilities, and the Receptor doesn't have one. Can you get one installed if you can't install the serial to USB driver?

Cheers,

Boog.

The GUI is designed to run on an 1024x768 screen. I cannot find anything that would cause the screen to "shrink to fit" I don't know if it is automatic, I don't have an 800x600 screen to try.

Have you tried? Does the screen shrink to fit, or do you see just a piece of it?

I don't know what kind of driver is needed for your USB to serial converter. You can try it and it may work. If it doesn't you can search the web for a Linux driver. If you find a driver, we can take a look and see if we can install it.

Yeah, you just see a bit of it. The truly bizarre thing about this monitor is that you can resize it horizontally, but there's no option to do it vertically, which is a shocker, because I can't see the bypass button!!

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! :bang: :dog:

Dan,

Can you change the video card in the Receptor?

B.

There is no video card. Video is built into the motherboard.

Changing the video resolution would not solve anything because the software is designed to run at 1024x768. You need something that would shink to fit the screen. I don't know if it's possible and/or available.

Oh, man! I have no idea what you mean, btw

You mean software which would make it shrink, or a different monitor?

I was taking about software, but I don't know if it's possible or available.

I don't know if this works for Windows or not (Rick would know), but on the Mac the "Receptor Remote Control" application has a "Shrink to fit" option. With that you can resize the window and the Receptor GUI shrinks. You could use a laptop with an 800x600 screen.

But, there does not seem to be any way to do this directly on Receptor's display.

I'll add it to the improvement sticky, then.

Hi Dan,

I've found the Linux drivers - http://www.aten.com/04-1-tech-download.php?id=619 - can you let me know how to install them? Which version (Red Hat 7.3, 8, or 9)?

These are not compiled drivers that a customer can install easily. This is source code that needs to be compiled alongside the Linux kernel. But, the good news is that you already have these drivers with your current Linux kernel. When you insert your serial to USB device, Receptor should gain a new serial port.

My guess is that the problem now is how to tell the system that there is a serial mouse connected to that port. I suspect that your touch screen monitor acts like a serial mouse.

If we had your touch screen monitor and USB/serial device at Muse we could try to figure out how to make it work. It may be very difficult to do this in the forum. Maybe I could login remotely to your Receptor and poke around a little.

Do you have a Mac or PC? Do you have cable or DSL? How do you connect to the Internet? If you have cable or DSL and a router, I may be able to login remotely. Send me an IM if you want to try this.

Thanks Dan - you mean PM? Are you on Messenger? If so, I'm boogooloo1@hotmail.com if you want to get in touch with me that way. Might be difficult, as I'm in Australia, so we'll have to work out a convenient time.

Yes, I have ADSL and a router, so we could do the remote access thing, if you're up for it - I'd appreciate it!
