I've received two so far, both from Vine street in Hollywood.

Has anyone else received any of these letters?

Please respond if so, tell from what labels?

Lets find out if these guys are a scam. :hihi:

Wasn't the original Hollywood records a division of sony? I think it was Danzig who had a falling out with them. They went bankrupt. Is this the same Hollywood records?

I don't think they're a branch of sony, it's two different labels. I called the first one and he said that they're not really signing artist right now, but they can offer radio and TV play. He said to send my demo and they'll respond with a reply in ten days.

Also I have no clue on how they found me, which is why I thought they were sending mass mail to artists...and maybe some of you got it too.?

I was just in California a week ago and sent some songs to a lady that worked for "DreamWorks" (the film company). Maybe this is something due to what she did.?

Oh yeah, it's not called Holywood records, that's just the location.

BTW, if you do get contacted like this and decide to send a demo...make for sure you hold a copyright on the songs and also get a signature when they recieve the package! C.Y.O.A.!!!! (cover your own ass)

I've got a friend in a band, The D4, thats signed to Hollywood Records.
Haven't seen him for well over a year now, but when they signed, it was reportedly the biggest cash advance deal in New Zealand history! 8)

If anyones interested...

Joking aside...
It is kinda funny how people assume that signing to a major means evil. I wonder why?

I haven't seen the guy for ages 'coz they've been touring the world, something they no doubt enjoy!

It was six o'clock headline news here in NZ when they played Letterman, simply because they were the first band from here to do it.

I'm not particularly into their thing etc, but other people are, I guess thats why they got some attention?

They built a studio with the proceeds of their advance, by the way.

Oddly enough, the dealings I had back in the day with small labels were the ones I had to eventually run screaming from. There are dishonest people at every level, however, there are just as many people that are on the up and up, and while yes, the dollar rules all, there are people in the entertainment business who truly love it and are willing to bend over backward for people just to see them succeed....
Um....
