Maxing out the RAM...

Perhaps I spoke too soon.....one of my Kompakt settings had been changed last time I was mucking about. With "Reserved Voices" back up to 256 I seem to be having good results with White Grand Jr. and Scarbee Rhodes. I'm hesitating to call it crackle proof until I play for hours with no spikes. But encouraging.

to philAiken,
please keep the board posted of any improvements/findings you come up with regarding your sampler tweaks. i'd like to know if the 2gig upgrade helped kompakt using v1.2 and what setting 'reserved voices' (i'm not really sure what that is) to 256 has done for you.
as it is, i'm over 1gig ram and still struggling with pops and clicks.

I certainly don't claim to be an authority on the subject, but here's what I know.
Increasing to 2 gigs seems to have helped, but I can't quantify it. I'd have to uninstall the extra RAM and do some A/B tests.
Here is the way I am set up now.
Dan posted these Kompakt settings:
Open to the Kompakt Edit View
Select Options > DFD
Set Preload Buffer Size to: 432
Set Voice Buffer Size to: 528
Click Apply
Additionally there is a parameter called "reserved voices". Increasing this increases the amount of audio stuffed in RAM (which is where the extra RAM starts to be real handy) I have this cranked to 256. This seems to make a big difference from the default setting. (So change this and click "Apply")
With these settings and 2G of RAM I am tantalizingly close to doing what I want. I'm able to run the full Scarbee Rhodes sample set and the White Grand Jr. piano (note the Jr...)
at 128 sample buffer with at least a LITTLE confidence that I won't get pops. This is even when I go out of my way to try to "break it". If I just play normally I seem to be fine - even with sustain pedal, etc. The CPU meter will still spike a LITTLE bit at what seems like weird times...ie.... I'm not doing anything that seems particularly taxing...but it doesn't max out.
Note that I this is with just the one instrument loaded, and no effects.
I'm hoping that with 1.3 and the support of Kontakt it will be even better. Try these settings, though, and see if it works for you. I don't know if we have any of the same sample sets, but if we do we can try to quantify the difference that the extra RAM makes.
I completely defer to Rick and Dan on all of the above as they both know alot more about it than I do - but I am spending a fair amount of time trying to get this to work as well as I can.
Please feel free to PM me.
And anyone please correct me if I am posting misinformation.
