So my sister's work all upgraded from their old 15" flat-panel displays to 17" or more (depending on status). Consequently, I inherited a 15" LCD, which isn't a step down for me because my CRTs were only 15" in the first place.
There were actually 2 spares at her work, but she didn't want to be greedy and take both. I find with a regular SVGA connector that the colours are iffy, so I'm thinking of getting a DVI cable; however, it's not THAT important to me. If I get a second one (she'll wait a month to see if it gets claimed) then I'll reconsider-- for now, I think the CRT is still a better choice over this particular LCD for photo editing and so forth.
BUT, the end result is that when I'm tracking guitar, I can shut off my CRT and not have to travel around the room and stand at weird angles to find the most hum-resistant spot, I can just record right where I am. Sweet, sweet relief has finally arrived!

Cool... I have an old notebook (PIII 500mHz) that I've been using as a second monitor using a program called Maxivista... I could do the same with that... I haven't found myself wandering around a room, but I find if I hold my guitar just right in relation to the monitor, I can minimize the hum, but I get some severe cramping in muscles I never knew existed. I'll give this a whirl tonight...

I'm a Les Paul man, so my monster 20 incher doesn't cause any problems.. my big CRT monitor doesn't either! <groan>
actually its started flickering ominously recently: I might have to save the pennies for a flat panel before it dies.. I nearly got a hernia carrying that CRT bastard up the stairs!

darcy: I did beta-testing for Maxivista.
Unfortunately, my complimentary copy does not come with technical support or updates, and I can't get it to work over my LAN. Considering buying the thing, since it was so damn useful when it was working. The only thing that worries me is that my laptop is actually kinda noisy (noisier than my desktop!). Gotta figure out how to optimize and underclock before that undertaking. But then I'd be un dual-LCD land.
Plat - I love my P-90s.
Even my Little '59 humbucker picks up a "bit" of noise, though obviously it cancels most of it out. The residuals are at times noticeable in high-gain settings, though.

Here too actually, but I don't use that much distortion very often, and when I do my pre-amp's noise gate works well.. I have some noise issues when I get my Squire Strat outLunch Money wrote: The residuals are at times noticeable in high-gain settings, though.
