OK. T1 is working very good, but I want to try features in T2. I also really want better colouring.
With tracktion 2 the entire interface updates very slow. Sometimes it will have short times of updating smooth but it is rare.
My system setup is:
motherboard: msi 925x neo platinum
processor: 3.8 pentium 4 (overclocked to 4.2) I have tried without overclock too
Ram: 2gb samsung ddr2 ram
Hard Drive: 40gb WD for c:, 2 74 WD 10,000 rpm for projects and backup.
Video: Matrox Parhelia with 3 head.
OS: Windows XP pro sp2
Soundcard: RME FireFace 800
Using ASIO buffers.

Are you using the Parhelia with all 3 displays enabled? If so, have you tried with just one display enabled?
Not that is a solution.....just trying to help you nail the problem.

I use all 3 displays, but I have tried with a matrox 550 now too. I also have a Radeon 9700 I borrowed that made no change.
I reinstalled windows each time.

Your system is toooo fast. Tracktion 2's advanced leveler function makes every machine into a 600mhz PIII.
Seriously, sounds like you have been through some tedious troubleshooting. But why stop now!
Since you have tried different video cards without success, can you try, yet again, re-installing XP, but this time without SP2? Also have you re-installed with and without ACPI options?

I'm guessing your P4 supports HT. If it is enabled, you may want to try disabling it.

Yeah, but we're trying to help the guy, Ron.
I also have SP2 running and it works fine for me. However, when you're troubleshooting you end up trying just about everything......

My Xp pro disc has sp2 installed. It is OEM that I ordered with my machine parts.
I will try onboard sound.
HyperThread is on, I will try it off. It was off when I first tried. From my research the benefits of hyper thread are good after 3.6ghz so I put it back on.
Thank you so far.

unfortunately true...gbles wrote:you end up trying just about everything......
Slow GUI reponse on PC is generally caused by either :
- HT enabled
- video card config issues -- hardware conflicts primarily, but drivers can do it too
- very long MIDI clips (I haven't had it happen so much with long audio clips).
there are a bunch of other possibilities, plus the usual collection of bizarro "I'd never even think to try that" things that make computing such a joy.

Not so much for DAWs. It doesn't generally offer much unless the DAW has been written to support it, and some plugins *really* don't like HT.dee ess pee wrote:From my research the benefits of hyper thread are good after 3.6ghz so I put it back on.
I'm guessing there is nothing to suggest this is a denormalisation issue?

So, should I turn off HT on my P4 3.2?

I was using Adventus1.5 and the whole interface just stuffed up. Everywhere I moved the mouse buttons and other UI stuff was dissapearing. I restarted but it was just too unstable.

Ht off has made T2 update almost reasonable. But at 120bpm the time is only updating once every beat and a half about.
Meters are still useless, waveforms draw slowly, cursor moves in blockiness.
Thank you valley so far. This is a lot closer, but still hard to use.

You've tried all these, I'm sure, but....
Updated the video drivers? Messed around with the video acceleration options? Checked T2's priority in the task list? Set XP Processor scheduling to give more resources to background services? Visited http://www.tweakxp.com/ and http://www.musicxp.net/index.php for a list of services to turn off?
Checked your System Info panel for conflicting devices / resources?
We're not going to give up until your system is running as fast as Ron's!
