T2 works with Melodyne ?

Those of you who still haven't decided on buying Melodyne and/or waiting for UNO should have a look at the less-known Rephrase http://www.leapfrogaudio.com/ . This works directly as a VSTi inside the host, so there's no need for a bridge, ReWire etc. After analysis of your wav file, it is exported as a midi clip which can then be modified within Tracktion. There's a demo on the website which lets you test all functionaliy except for saving.

This is astounding on the face of it. I have been waiting on Uno for a year, but I have just downlodaed the demo of this leapfrog thing and it seems to do everything I need. Have people been using it for a while - is it as good as it seems? Basically, I want to do vocal harmonies with it and it seems excellent.

I've been using Rephrase since November (when version 1.0 was released ), and I'm happy with it. The engine is different from the Melodyne one, but it plays in the same league. For the material I've been testing (mostly a single singing voice - same like you, right?), Rephrase has less audible artifacts than Melodyne, but I'm sure there are examples where Melodyne will be better.

Rephrase / Leapfrogaudio have their own forum right here at KvR, and the Rephrase programmer usually replies to all questions posted there. With Tracktion (including T2), I have not noticed any specific problems. No surprise, since the programmer told me that Tracktion compatibility is part of his test suite.

My current personal criticism list of Rephrase contains two items: (1) the bpm detection of the wav source file is often not very precise, so make sure that you adjust it to the correct value if necessary; (2) mis-interpreted base pitches cannot be fixed within Rephrase, so your midi clip will sometimes have to contain "intentionally wrong" notes.

As you can see, there's nothing severe on the list. The software is stable and easy to use, produces high-quality output, and is really cheap (especially when compared to Melodyne). I think Celemony would get into trouble if more people knew about it.

I have been following the development of Leapfrog.
Looks very promising but every time I tried it I got the feeling it's not complete yet.
I tried Autotune "the industry standard" but wasn't impressed, I can see thou the lure for live preformance.
As for Melodyne, it's pretty amazing.
Works great thou it crashes more then I would like it to.
If they would have included the "bridge" in the demo I probably would have bought it already.

What is it about the sound that you don't like? Since version 1.2 I feel Rephrase's sound compares very well against our competition.

yeah, i think that would have been smart. given that the audio results sound pretty amazing, i reckon the way melodyne integrates with a host becomes the make-or-break factor for undecided people.

hmmm - that means it way reduced in functionality.
I guess youd have to export audio out of your host (e.g. T2), Import it into Uno & then when they are rewired together & playing in sync edit the audio in Uno & then either record that rewire channel in T2, or export from Uno back into T2.
Not so bad I suppose if it's a shit load cheaper, a few more steps.

Unless a bunch of people want to donate money to Christian (a student without tonnes of extra cash), it'll have to wait until he can afford his Max/MSP upgrade, or until Cycling '74 gets a new Pluggo out with the issue sorted.
