I ripped a track from a commercial CD and loaded it into Wavelab. It's analysis function says the song peaks at -.15db.

I loaded this .wav into T2. Just one stereo track in the whole edit. On playback it clips badly. I have no filters of any kind inserted except the normal Tracktion pan/vol filter and the track meter. The pan/vol filter is set at 0bdb. The track property is set at 0db. The master pan/vol is set at 0db.

If I set the track pan/vol filter to -6db then I see the -.15db peak that Wavelab says the song peaks at.

Where is the 6db of gain coming from. Why would I need to insert a -6db cut on the track to make it come out right?????

No idea.. unless you've panned the track at all? I've never come across that one.

Am I really the only one seeing this??? This is driving me crazy. I am doing very carefully controlled tests.

A .wav that I can import into Wavelab, Acid, Soundforge and plays in all of these programs at 0db peak plays in T2 +6db higher. This is driving me crazy!!!! My pan is dead center, every level I can set is at 0db. There is only 1 track in the whole edit. What could I possibly be doing wrong???

Why don't you post the wav somewhere, see what other people get in their copy of Tracktion?

I've never had 6dB of gain.

I'd be curious to find out where the heck it's coming from, though!

you know, when you click on an audio clip, you get a whole heap of clip specific information in the lower strip of the screen- name, start/end points, options for editing and viewing the source file. There is also a GAIN slider here- check it is at 0db.

bear, i noticed my demo of t2 clips as well the same demo songs that dont clip in t1... ur not alone

try importing it in to t1 and see if it does the same in t2 bear

I noticed the opposite! In a new defaulted project it reduces volume -3db on the master control.

Weird!

that is weird, i just got my t2 box hopefully sometime this week i can play around with it some more. i know its not just the hiss clippin it.. but it doesnt clip t1

dee, the master volume has always been -3dB, even in Tracktion 1.

why is the master volume at -3 as a default? I always put it on zero..any ideas on this one? is it alright to mix at zero? thats what im used to doing.

I couldn't tell you why it's -3, either. <shrug> Weird. I always set it to -0.5

Arrrrrgh It quit doing it. I made some calibrated sine wave files in wavelab to experiment with, loaded them up, and they played back perfectly calibrated. I then loaded the .wav I was messing with yesterday and it also plays back at the correct level.

Now I am starting to doubt my sanity (or at least more so than usual...)

I swear I have everything set the same as yesterday when everything was playing +6bd high....
